auto parts store....a short rant

tomh.
Went to the auto parts store today to get a light bulb and wipers.
Well, I paid an extra buck for the Sylvania bulbs because they were Made in the USA. The other brand was made in China. We do make something here. Nice just to have the option!
On to the wipers. I want the refills. They're just a few bucks. I know they're kind of a pain to install. But they're just a few bucks/u]!
But wait! You can't buy refills anymore. There are about a dozen different brands/styles of blade assemblies though. But I don't want to pay $8 to $19 for a single blade!
Am I the only person left who is willing to wrestle a blade refill for a few minutes to save a few dollars? Or am I just that cheap?
I did go down the street to the next auto parts store. More of the same. Plan B on the wipers I guess.
Oh well, I got my Made in USA bulb in!

    I've never felt the need to screw around with the refills. I'm not surprised they've disappeared from store shelves. Most people have a hard time changing the blade assembly without professional help. I can't imagine what would happen if you gave them an insert.

    When I was in high school I worked in a gas station. On rainy days, we charged double for wiper refills!! On snowy days, we charged double to change from regular tires to snow tires!!
    Our boss always said, if these people can't remember they need new wipers on a sunny day, they can pay extra while we wrestle the new wipers in the rain!! I hated changing wiper refills!! Good luck!!

    ask at the counter. last time i went to get refills they have them in the back. I guess people dont have the smarts to change them out any more. rether pay high dollar for the whole assembly instead of the refills.

    Tomh. been there. Tried that. You'll notice the rubber blade backings are crimped-in so that they cannot be removed. Remember the blades that had "bayonet clips" on them? Not anymore. Best, Joe

    Buy the "warranty forever" kind. Then they have to give you free refills.

    I have a couple of "warranty forever" batteries in my '72 truck. They have given me about $500.00 worth of free batteries so far. And they tried to buy me out a couple of times. I just laugh and say "see ya in four years".
