usps delivery update

Went to PO on Friday AM early the PostMaster himself had talked to the new Saturday sub carrier, they figured out that the sub had turned the address #'s around, 958 instead of 985 and left it at 958 on Saturday 12/29/07.The FFL is less than half block away and on the other side of road. 958 adress is a less than nice neighbor so he just kept it untill the Post Master knocked on his door on Thursday
01/04/08. Also the neighbor's daughter, (9 years old) signed for it!
The Post Master personally delivered to FFL Friday AM before I got there.The PM got a red star a big thank you from me that day. Alls well that ends well.

    That should be all for that carrier. Anyone can make a mistake about an address (I'm a retired carrier & I made some mistakes from time to time)but letting a nine year old sign for it is a BIG NO NO.

    To avoid ending this I will post a response to the question asked in the next post.

    There have been several changes since I retired that have made the job MUCH more difficult. The mail now comes presorted (Delivery Point Sequenced) & the carrier now carries two bundles of letter mail. One presorted & one for residual mail. Add in bundles for magazines, non-addressed advertisements, packages, free samples & accountable mail which must be kept seperate & you can see that an one-handed paper hanger has it easy by comparison. Because of the DPS the routes are now much longer because the carrier spends much less time caseing mail. Thus my name Gruntled (No longer disgruntled Postal worker.)

    Good to hear of a success story with USPS. Here locally they are efficient. I have been into biz using USPS since 1960 and up to couple years ago I could count on one hand the number of problems I'd had - and at least one of them was my own doing.

    In the past year and a half I have had twice as many screw-ups by USPS than I had in the previous 40 years. No wonder UPS, Fedex and DHL are eating their lunch. Wonder what has gone wrong with USPS - I hate to see it happening.

    Had that simple stuff but Express Mail taking 5 days, simple packages vanish off the planet, first class letters, others I can't recall at the moment. Local PO folks doing a good job seems to me. Mail OK to/from NY & MA great - 2 days but to/from CO 1 to 4 days.
