Barking neighbor's dog stopped barking...

I haven't heard the 2 hound dogs barking behind me in a couple of weeks. I found out that the male of the two died. He was the instigator. The female was always very calm and only really barked when he started. That is unfortunate and I feel bad for the neighbor who owns them - we are friendly. [:(]

  We live in a very secluded/unpopulated valley, and have a neighbor
  about ?mi. away, across the field. She had some kind of larger dog
  that barked vicously allll night long, every night.
  
  She's an older lady and i always figured she had the dog so she'd feel
  a bit more secure. I guess if the dog stopped barking, she'd know
  something was amiss..lol
  
  Luckily it was far enough away that it wasn't too bothersome, but I
  guess something happened to him, haven't heard him for awhile now.

  My Lab won't make a sound when the Bears are around - she just "herds" the wife upstairs, and stays real close.

  Whenever my Dane woofs at night there's ALLWAYS something afoot.
  Usually a coon, possum, etc.
  Comforting to know they're on duty, though.
