how many languages?
How many different languages do you speak and what are they. i just signed up to start taking german as an online course through the community college here in town. i also speak ebonics and jive, since i live in the hood.

I took German for three years in High School.
Didn't do me a lot of good.
Studying Anthropology in college, I needed to be fluent in Tahitian. But in the intervening decades I've lost all but a few phrases.

English, a little Spanish, a little less German. I don't talk Frog though. 0 -

I took a three month tour of Europe. I went to Bulgaria and Turkey along with a dozen other countries. In eastern Europe I found German to be more useful than English, as so many German tourists went to those countries that many of the locals spoke German. I also hitchiked all over Germany, and on three nights I got to spend the night with a German family, and the fathers had all fought in the war. They spoke no English.
So that was a great experience to be in a German soldiers home, talking to him in German as he told of blowing up the bridges over the Rhine. The bad guy in all those war movies, and here I was sitting in his house talking to him!
Also I have made 9 trips to Mexico and Central America and took 2 years of Spanish in college so I can get around in Spanish.
I want to get this course called Rosetta Stone and get fluent in German.
Along those lines, I have seen the Rosetta Stone. I was wandering around the British Museum in London and almost bumped into it. A great experience.0 -

There is nothing wrong with speaking multiple languages, but there is something very wrong with not speaking English in America.
Most people are not offended that others speak multiple languages. They get offended when others can't communicate in a nations mother tounge.
If I went to live/work, lets say, in France, I would not expect the frog's to learn MY tounge to communicate. It would be MY duty to learn French BEFORE moving there.0 -

One guy I work with is a German native, he told me their are about 800+ different dialects of German, some he cannot understand. I guess like here in America. Creole, Queens English, Getto etc.0 -

At one time, I was fairly conversant in Spanish, but no more. The numbers of people speaking Spanish has increased, and the ATTITUDE is that I somehow OWE them conversation in their native tongue, so I have forgotten most of the Spanish I learned.
