4x4 rocks
The snow has started falling here. All the roads are covered and I got picked to take some relatives home because I have the 4x4. Driving down a 4 lane road with one lane partially plowed in each direction I was able to pass everyone driving on the unplowed lane. Even where the plows have been the lanes are covered with snow. The cars in front of me were doing about 15mph in the snow. I passed them all at about 25-30. (Speed limit is 35, slowed down for weather conditions).
And yes I know stopping is the same with a 4x4 as it is in a car and ice is bad.

You haven't seen 6 foot drifts on roads before have you? Or even 4 foot for that matter.
I sure have! I drove truck for 16 years and have driven 18 wheelers through some pretty bad snow storms in various parts of the country.0 -

There are times you can't get out of my driveway without 4 wheel drive. When the snow is 18 inches deep 2wd is just to laugh at. The snow plows don't get around to the county oil roads until a week after a snowstorm. You probably would get very far around here.

That is true. Once the plows have been by and it is just snow packed or ice 2wd gets along just fine if a person takes it easy.0 -
So there I was, driving my 2wd Ford sedan, 150 miles down snow covered roads, doing 55 in the right lane, while passing all the 4x4's that could only muster up the traction to go 35 in the center lane or had planted themselves off in the ditches [:D].
Damn Flatlanders just don't know how to drive, regardless of how many drive wheels they have.0 -

I have been driving all over Northern NY in my (obviously) front wheel drive '98 Escort for 10 years without getting stuck. The wife usually drives the Explorer Sportrac (4x4). Even when I drive that I seldom use the 4wd. Never been stuck in that either. For me, 4wd is just an insurence policy. 0 -
2 wheel drives [:D][:D][:D]haha took a big Terex payloader with an 8V92 turbocharged Detroit a long time to open this road...... can we say snowmobile time.

72,78,90 ford 02 dodge for me all 4x4 all standards oh yeah farm trac 4x4 also. I think I'm eat up with it! 440
