Varnell police chief's home searched

Varnell Police Chief Tim Henderson's home was searched by agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and deputies from the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office Wednesday morning and a woman who was living at the home was arrested for misdemeanor marijuana possession, officials said.
Maj. John Gibson with the sheriff's office would not say why Henderson's home was searched, referring questions to the GBI. Assistant special-agent-in-charge Jerry Scott of the GBI office in Calhoun did not immediately return phone calls Wednesday afternoon. Henderson and his wife, Pam, were questioned, Gibson said. Calls to Henderson Wednesday afternoon were not immediately returned.
Teresa L. Kohnle, 35, was taken to the Whitfield County Jail on the drug charge. She is charged in Catoosa County with felony murder and first degree arson in connection with the death of her husband, James Kohnle, 57, of Boynton. James Kohnle, a Dalton chiropractor, died of smoke inhalation from a fire at the couple's home on June 29 of last year.
Teresa Kohnle was out on bond on the drug charge and living with the Hendersons, Gibson said.
One of her bond conditions was that she live at the Hendersons' home, said Catoosa County Sheriff Phil Summers. Summers said officials there were aware of Teresa Kohnle's arrest and had notified the district attorney's office Wednesday to see if any charges will be filed due to the arrest.
No one answered the phone at the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office in Catoosa late Wednesday afternoon.
Varnell finds city funds missing

Whitfield County Sheriff's Office investigators are probing the loss of funds from the city of Varnell, said Maj. John Gibson with the sheriff's office.
Approximately $800 is missing, according to Varnell city manager Jestin Johnson.
The funds are missing from money collected for fines in the police department, Johnson said.
"When the clerk of court was doing her countdown she noticed something was not right," he said. The money was noticed missing in mid-October.
City employees have been interviewed and taken lie detector tests, Gibson said. No arrests had been made as of Wednesday evening.
Calls to Police Chief Tim Henderson were not immediately returned Wednesday afternoon.
