HIGH SPEED INTERNET QUESTION ?

First off,I am not on a computer right now.I use a WEBTV/MSN 2 web browser using dialup.MSN says I can upgrade to a broadband connection.Do I still have to use a phone line with a broadband connecton ? My daughter has a high speed connection with her real computer,but still has to be plugged into a phone jack.I like my MSN unit because I can use any tv as a moniter.I am currently using a 26 inch tv.Anybody on this site using a WEBTV/MSN unit ? I don't need a real computer.Can anybody help me.

    You will get a dsl modem to hook up to the dsl, and yes it does plug into the phone jack. From there you will use an Ethernet cable to hook from the msn to the modem. You will need to install filters at each active phone jack in your house when you get your dsl set up.

    depends on whether you high speed is cable or dsl. cable doest plug into your phone line but runs independently. dsl utilizes your phoneline. the above posted infor regarding dsl is accurate about the filters and all.

    do an informal poll in your area to see what other folks are using. service quality can vary drastically between the two in the same area. dsl can be lightning while cable crawls or vice versa.

    Got DSL through Qwest, and love it!!!! Had dial up for a long time and tolerated it.

    If u never had it, U don't miss it.If you spent 1/2 hour on my PC, with Cable, you'd shoot your DSL...lol The "fiber-optic" box is literally 15' from my puter, and it has 3.2Gig.processor w/2Gig.RAM and 200Gig. H/D.[:D]

    Well I got hooked up with a broadband connetion a few minutes ago.What a difference.8 years of dialup was killing me.

    Had WebTV for 2 months-couldn't download anything, most web content is invisible, lousy search engine, took forever to load pages, constant updates and slowdowns from MSN, finally caved in and got dialup from Juno. Not perfect, but I can store stuff, see things that the Web couldn't show me, and I can play games on my 'puter!
    QwestDSL is real big down here, but I can't see spending 4X what I blow on Juno just to get on the web.
    Guess a firewall isn't an option anymore?

    I am on cable.

    My phone operates on the cable lines as my phone service comes from the cable company.

    It is a strange set up but it does work good.

    I have DSL PRO through AT&T for $24.99 month. They also offer slower speeds for less money. I have the DSL slitter on the back of my house, and run a dedicated CAT 5 line to the computer. That way I don't need all the filters on every jack in the house.
