Who has been through Survival, Escape, and Evasion
School?
If you have, you know it's an experience you wouldn't take a million dollars for, or do for a million dollars.
I was lucky. 1962 Barber's Point NAS out to Kaaena point for a week and into prison camp on the base at Barber's. Nothing to eat there, but no snakes. Plenty of scorpions and an occasonal mongoose that we tried to eat.[:(]
I'd like to hear your experiences from there or other fine places.[:)]

making rice cookers from bamboo, sucking water out of bamboo joints, making fork spoon from bamboo, making cotts off the ground so the wild boars dont get you, mudding down to keep bugs off you, catching fish in rock traps, herding wild chickens into snares, being pulled up thru the trees by a forest penetrator, firing mk79 mk13 flares, using prc-63/90's to vector, been there, done that.

Chasing LRPs in the Austrian Alps for the International School of LRPs. Extreme cold weather for extreme periods of time. Wouldn't have missed it for a million dollars. It's the best memory I have of the Army. 0 -

I did it in 1980 in Warner Springs, CA. Got to eat a rabbit eyeball and ride the waterboard (I can say it's torture but you can't say it's not because you have never been on it.). [;)]
Wilderness phase was okay, the Compound sucked big time. In real life I would have been shot out of hand. Still would enjoy kicking the instructors asses for taking too much pleasure drowning me.0 -

Panama 1980. For three weeks. That monkey was not to bad is all I have to say about that.
Ft. Lewis for two weeks in 1981. Three of us in the group just about got a Article 15 for stealing a Salmon from an Indian fisherman on the Nisqually River..0 -

the receiving school was in s.d. at nas north is.. the ride out to the compound and range was to warner springs. 0 -

Allthough in my early twentys I considered my-self to be capable of living off the land and did so on many occasions I dont really believe that qualifies as suvivalist training, I would call it boy scouts in training.
The closest I can say is I was married and divorced 3 times I survived that.0 -
Whoever said "You'd be surprized what you'll eat when you are starving", was right on. Out of sheer hunger we felt compelled to snare a mongoose. We stewed him in boiling water (no spices). Even though we were starving, he was nearly impossible to get down (imagine a big rat).[xx(] 0 -

I went through s.e.r.e. school in 1981 out in Warner Springs.
Starved, beat up and waterboarded until I enjoyed it![:)]
Waterboard is a hellova thing...we all KNEW they weren't gonna kill , but man was it horrible.
They should call it torture; but who cares what they do to Osama's pals.0 -
I have survived marriage so far,escaped from the past 3 of her family reunions,and since the holidays are over,i have evaded the question of "do I look fat in these jeans?" not bad from the school of hard knocks [:)] 0 -
1971, Warner Springs! If they had told me this was an annual requirement to maintain my flight status, I would have terminated flight status after the first year. However, it was an experience I wouldn't exchange for anything and I learned a lot about myself (read evasion course and compound phase).
During the compound phase I found out what a 38 behind your ear felt like during an escape attempt. I survived the little torture box they fold you into, but when they finally let me out the circulation had been cutoff to my legs long enough that I couldn't walk for a few minutes. Also, during one of my interrogation seasons they got a little carried away and when they stopped talking in gibberish and speaking in plain English to me I knew something was wrong; that's when I noticed the blood flowing onto my chest. After a brief timeout for an examination by a doctor and treatment for a bad cut on my lip, I was thrown back into confinement.
I had tears in my eyes when they raised the American Flag at the end of the compound phase!
Rabbits were not healthy, so they exchanged a package of wieners for one if you killed one. Also, Rosy Boa's were protected, so if you caught one you got a package of wieners when you brought it in.0 -
1965, 25th Infantry Division (Hawaii). We had extensive training in both E&E and survival. I often comment that it was some of the best training I have ever had, and still remember much of it. 0 -
I drove through Watts in the 1970s. Does that count? 0
