What are the advantages and disadvantages
of reduced recoil shotshells? I bought a case of Hornady Law Enforcement 00 Buckshot, and I still don't know why.

I read in one of the gun magazines that the law enforcement shotgun load was developed soley because female officers were having a hard time handling the full shotgun loads. I believe the magazine did a test on the the two different types and proved that the reduced recoil loads also had reduced power which to me seems to just be the result of the laws of physics.
Can't remember all the details but maybe a google search would turn up some hard facts.0 -
Hornady claims these have the same range and power as regular 2 3/4" shells. Ca-ca? 0 -

That's what I would think. They also won't cycle my Benelli M3 in semi-auto mode.0 -
I have used them before. They are designed to slow very quickly after encountering a solid surface so that the chance of shooting through a wall is greatly reduced. The supposed scenario would have you shooting an intruder in your living room without having the shot column pass through the wall possibly hitting a family member. It has more to do with the wad and packing of the shot than with the powder charge so that without impacting a solid surface the shot column will behave as any other shot shell. 0 -

That's basically what I was told. So safety is the advantage, and being less effective (having less killing power) is the disadvantage?

They are devastating at close ranges like an indoor shootout would be. If you lived in a singlewide your cats and dogs would still be at high risk in the next room.Outside after 25-30 yds the shot is so dispersed you may as well just scream at the bad guys like Richard Simmons. Having been a former bad guy I can tell you how disconcerting that is, especially if you have the little red and white striped shorty shorts. 0 -
i would suppose that would have something to do with a kinder gentler law enforcement attitude with the peak culminating in avoiding any direct contact with 30 million illegals....jeeezz.... it would seem to me that ammo titled "law enforcement" would be named maxi blaster hi velocity super destroyer special certain death guaranteed no recidivism never miss terminator 0
