S&W model 29 shooters

What does this guy mean when he says " 4 screw gun ) [B)]
I can only count 2 on the right side , 2nd pic .
I have this same gun ( mod 29 with 4" brl. ) but never counted the screws on it . I know I didn't pay any where near what he's asking .
Mine is in exc. cond. and is pinned & recessed .

    He is refering to the number of screws on the right side plate. That gun looks like a 4 screw. One screw is under the right grip, and one in front of the trigger guard.

    In the early days, about 1905 to 1955 S&W revolvers had what are called 5 screws. Four on the right side plate and one on the outer front of the trigger guard. These were "5 screw" guns

    Then about 1955 the top side plate screw was eliminated, That screw was just ahead of the hammer on the right side. These were "4 screw" guns

    About 1961 the trigger guard screw was eliminated which brought us to the current "3 screw" guns.

    Also, prior to 1905 there were 4 screw guns.

    Are the grips covering two , I only see two ?

    Check on the outside front of the trigger guard, that counts as one.

    The other missing screw is under the right grip above where the S&W logo is on the grip.

    Thank Ya Kindly fellas , I'll check it when I get home in the morning . Not much of a gun history buff , I just buy em if I like em to shoot em [:p] That 29 , I picked up at a locale gun shop for $404.oo out the door about 3 or 4 years ago ( used )
