Funny thing, the dang bush doesn't even produce a flower.

    Or maybe man is playing god by trying to eradicate this species in its introduced range?

    Which do you mean?

    In either case, this species most certainly DOES produce flowers.

    Multiflora rose reproduces by seed and by forming new plants that root from the tips of arching canes that contact the ground.

    I beg to differ slightly with these folks.
    Multiflora Rose will also spread from root runners and sprout from both ends of a cutting dropped on the ground! After a winter burn off it'll come right back next spring. [:0]

    For some reason Goats love the taste of it.
    Maybe it was just the ones I had but they would strip every leaf off it and gum around on the canes. This mistreatment finally killed the briar. [:)]

    Goats are one of the best biocontrol agents out there. There ain't much that a goat can't eat, and there ain't many plant species that can stand the ministrations of a herd of goats.

    Yeah those things are a mess over in central Ohio. can hardly walk through the woods in some places because of em. They're good habitat for rabbits, though, but you better have a dog.

    In point of fact, except for food plants most introduced species are a poor idea. In introduced habitat there are usually few or no biological controls on the introduced species and they begin quickly to become a problem.

    Russian Thistle (tumble weed)
    Kudzu
    Cane toads
    Tamarask (salt cedar)
    English (really middle-eastern) sparrows
    Blue rock doves (church pigeons)
    starlings
    Bull frogs
    Red-eared slider turtles
    Dandylions

    I have found that if you use a brush hog on them and chew the crap out of the whole bush it helps. If you use round up type stuff from Tractor supply called big-N-Tough it will kill the plant at 4 OZ per gaollon sprayed on the stump.

    A goat will eat them too! Chain up the goat and let it work its magic. Just watch out for coyotes with a chained goat. Mulitflora does have nice pretty flowers, it is a royal pain here in S. Ohio.

    I hate that stinking plant. It is really thick in a place where I hunt. A few years ago, I tripped and fell into it backwards. It took me about 10 minutes to cut and struggle my way out of it. [}:)]

    I was so scratched up, I ended up with a couple thorns in my hand that got infected.

    I was Pheasant hunting in Northern Iowa about 1990 with a freind on on a large farm owned by my freinds sons freind. We hunted the morning then ate lunch at the farm house. The owner of the farms father was there, he must have been about 80. I made a comment that they didn't have and Multaflora Rose. The owner asked what it was, so I said next time I came to hunt I would bring him some. The owners father jumped up and said don't plan on coming back.

    Spryor, Bullfrogs have been introduced into areas of the US where they did not occur and into many other parts of the world. Usually these were part of get rich schemes farming for frog legs, that failed and the frogs either escaped or were released. Whereever that has occured, the bullfrogs have become estabished, including in the Sonoran desert of New Mexico and Arizona, and they have proceeded to eat the native frogs. In some cases they have eaten them to the brink of extinction.

    While they are wonderful, well adapted and facinating frogs in the Southeastern quarter of the country, they are introduced injurious wildlife any where else.
