PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- A Florida man was taken into custody after police said he allowed his 6-year-old daughter to sleep with a loaded gun under a pillow.
Robert Lee Johnson was charged with suspicion of child abuse and domestic battery.
According to an arrest report, Johnson told authorities that he owned a gun because he "watches too much CNN."
The report said that authorities were called to a home because Johnson and his stepfather were fighting. Investigators later found the gun underneath the child's pillow.
Johnson was transported to the St. Lucie County Jail.

what i question beyond the stupidity of the father letting a six yr old sleep with a gun is...wth were they doing searching the childs bed if they were responding to an adults argument? 0 -
That's strange. Shows up in the Miami paper and the local rag never printed anything about it and they usually don't miss a chance. I'm about 15 miles away. They have something going on down there lately where they keep finding trash and feces in homes on about a weekly basis and take kids and pets away from folks.Found about a dozen grow houses too. Earlier this year in about a 2 month period they had several kids hit by cars on their way to school and the city has been defensive about it. Maybe the mayor's upset about getting called on it and getting back at them. It used to be a sleepy little retirement community before it grew out of porportion. It is full of Yankees though.
In Fl if police respond to a domestic dispute...somebody's going to jail! I have no idea why they were searching the house. Unless maybe the girl had the gun to keep the stepfather at a distance and he complained to the police. (yeah I know thats stretchin it) [;)]
I can't see where any law was broken. (if the guy isn't a felon and hid the gun there) The DA won't get far with charges on this one otherwise. Bet it gets dropped to the battery charge.

That doesn't quite add up, why have a holster and a spare mag for a gun in the countertop, but keep the gun under your 6 year olds pillow. Also, if you are scared of burglar's why keeep the gun under your kid's pillow instead of your own.
I think this guy hide the gun under the pillow knowing that his guns would be taken when he was arrested for domestic battery, and when they found it his drunk dumb arse couldn't come up with anything else. He never said he kept the gun there when she slept, that's just the reporters added in theroy.
