M1A??
I have been looking that the M1A's for some time now and I am having a hard time deciding which unit to purchase. Personally I do like the Match grade model but also like tho SOCOM as well. Here is my question. Which one give you the most bang for the buck? I plan on keeping it for a very very long time. Let me know what you think to help me make the best decision for me. Pro and cons please - if any.

IMO the SOCOM takes away the whole point of the M1A to begin with.
Unless you plan on attending shooting competitions, I'd stick with the standard model.0 -

the Springfield loaded model is the most bang for the buck IMO. SOCOM II is a cool rifle, but really only beneficial a very select set of circmstances. 0 -
Here is what I posted for you on ATE.
Well a lot of it depends on what you plan on using it for. I prefer the the full length for an all around rifle. I just picked up a Sage EBR stock to make a more compact rifle for shorter ranges and I may pick up a SOCOM to put in that stock.
If you are not planning on shooting much past 500yrds either would be good. If you plan on doing some long range shooting I think you will do much better with the full length.

Buy the National Match Model if you really intend on keeping it for a long time. You can shoot across the course with it and even do 1000 yard matches AND you have the accuracy to be competitive. The other models can look cool but you'll tire of looks over a short time and wonder why you didn't go for the accuracy.
In a way the SOCOM is like a "Tanker" Garand...the two happiest days of your life are the day you pick it up and the day you unload it on some unsuspecting soul. A National Match rifle speaks to excellence in the shooter and the rifle. Beach0
