Fit and Finish of American guns
Look at the fit and finish between these 2 American guns, one built in the 1930's and one in the 1990's.

Mass production means faster returns on investment. Also, gun makers today don't pay their workers (craftsmen ?) the money that they once did. 0 -
It can and is being done, but not by the big manufactures. If you wan't a tight fit and a great finish you need to go to one of the custome builders and have them build you a gun. Work like that is not cheep to come by and you will end up paying dearly for it. Great guns in America are no longer made by Remington, Winchester and Smith & Wession, thos guys just make imitations of the great guns they once made. CSMC is the only american shotgun manufacture that is doing great work today. If you want a truly great shotgun you have to look out side of our borders to countries that still value a well made product, countries like Great Brittan, Germany, Austria and Italy. 0 -
Top one looks like it was stamped with a cookie cutter. Bottom one looks like the pieces were hand fit. I'd guess that the bottom one is the from the 30s?? 0 -

yea, top one is a red label too. I like hunting with a red label but I cant believe ruger lets em out the door like that. Look at the top where they left the wood squared off but the metal is rounded.0 -

Took me about 15 minutes. I will apply some laquer after the stain dries. Ruger could have surely done it in 2 minutes. 0 -
Why would you hunt with a Red Label Ruger, while you have those BEAUTIFUL 21's to use? 0 -

I hunt with the 21's. The red label is a 28 guage and a Witnchester 21 in a 28 guage, well they're scarce[:D]. I dont hunt with the 21's in the rain either.0 -

That's good. I figured you hunted with them. Yes, a 21 in 28 gauge.....mmmm nice$$$$$$. How about suffering along with a Parker repro in 28? Or a nice Superposed 28? I always admire your 21's when you post pictures of them. Thanks!!

Not surprising. Not American, but this is the world that produces Glock. I mean, is there an uglier gun? Maybe Hi Point.
Seems everything today is designed to be functional and not a work of art, whereas in the past it was both- custom builders aside of course.0
