Ammo shelf life
How long can shotgun shells be kept around and still be counted on to fire? Is the rule of thumb about the same as brass casings, and if so what is that? I have 30.06 ammo as far back as 1943, it might kick a little more (weather seal) but it still fires.

In high school back in the mid '80's my dad had a box of .410 shells that were cardboard and were probably made in the 50's. I shot them squirrel hunting and they all went bang. I wished I would have saved them now. 0 -
If kept in a dry, not overly hot environment- indefinite. I have shot ammo dated as far back as 1893, no problem. Just for kicks to see if it would go bang. I regularly shoot surplus from the 1938-70 period, no problems. 0
