Amsoil synthetic
Thinking of using it in my new diesel truck. Anyone use it and does it give better fuel mileage? Website says 25K mile changes..

I run 0w-20 in my Taurus. The engine was already smooth due to the factory roller lifters and the aftermarket roller rockers I added, so I didn't notice anything there. The car was already getting 27 mpg at 80 mph because of the computer tuning I did, so again not real increase in mileage. The car does start a lot easier in sub arctic weather, which was enough to warrant the change over. 0 -
That stuff will find a way to leave your engine.
I used it in my 97 Ford F-150. It didn't burn oil, and it didn't leave stains from leaks, but it was always needing more every few months.

I have a 99 f250 with 250,000 miles on it and have used amsoil in it since it had 24,000 miles. I have it in the trans and rear end. I buy the amsoil oil filter and change my oil every 20,000 miles. It comes out allmost as clean as like I put it in. No better fuel milage, but it is alot cheaper than changing oil every 3 or 4 thosand miles with regular oil and filters. 0 -
We used it in all our vehicles and tractors as I was growing up. I have used it in my vehicle with out any problem. I don't know about the increase in fuel millage though. 0 -
I use Amsoil in everything I own. It is the best. If you use it, buy their synthetic oil filters too. For long milage changes, you need to keep the carbon filtered out, and paper filters aren't designed to hold up for that long.
Email me if you decide to try it and I'll send you a dealer who will sell it to you at dealers cost. Great guy, and it is usually sitting on my porch two to three days after I order it.0 -

It wasn't the make of the vehicle, it was the oil. It works so good and is so slick it will find places to hide from you.
Wow, AMF sold a few leaky Harley's over 20 some odd years ago, and Jap-Bike riders are still clinging to the oil leaking stories of old...[;)]

Thanks, I spoke with a rep here in Columbia this morning.He said he could get it at cost for me. Website claims 8%+ fuel mileage savings in Cummins Diesels. Mine is getting around 18.5 now combined driving and that would be about 1.5MPG more. Not bad for a 7500# 4 door duelly 4 W.D. truck.0 -
select, I had a 96 3500 dodge dually with the diesel and got 26 mpg on the highway using amsoil. IT had 150,000 on it when I traded for a 99 f250 that only got 24 mpg. The amsoil probley will not help that much on mpg but it does help with the heat of the engine and will extend the life of the engine. The rear end gears will make the millage and I use michilan xlt 10 ply tires to take the weight of the motor better. The goodyears that came with the truck wore off in 15,000 miles but the 10 ply michilan tires go 100,000 before needing replacing. 0 -

Everybody that I have talked to says that once you get past 10,000 miles with non-synthetic oil switching over is iffy.
My 2003 Triumph has always run synthetic except for the 500 mile break in and even this hot running 2 cylinder motor does fine with 5000 mile changes. My buddies volvo goes 8000 miles.
I would not switch to synthetic with any vehicle that is pre 1990, based on my talking with other bikers.0 -
All of the pure synthetics are within an RCH of one another, in terms of their total performance envelope.

I have used mobil one ever since it came out.
I am going to swap out everything, my truck cam with synthetic everywhere. I am going to them, aftere I went to thier web site

I have worked as a engine mechanic at a wrecking yard for the last 26 years.I have had alot of car lot owners tell me when they have a used car that smokes,they put synthetic oil in the engine.They tell me synthetic oil does emit blue smoke like dinosauer based oil does.I know there is several different types of synthetic oil and I never bothered to ask what type they were using to screw people.
