Swat officer killed

LAPD SWAT Officer Randy Simmons, 51, was killed about 1am today in stand-off with barricaded gunman. Randy was a veteran ofcr and leaves a wife and 2 teenage kids.

The gunman had already killed 3 people then called police. A second SWAT Officer, James Veenstra, also 51, was wounded in the face and will recover.

Simmons is the first SWAT officer killed in the entire history of the LAPD SWAT Team.

    This is the first SWAT officer that has ever been killed in the line of duty since the founding of the program in 1972.

    Entry teams are extremely hazardous. We lost Lonney Brewer in a SWAT operation with a baracaded suspect. They named a park about two blocks from my house after him. He was a great guy with buck teeth and glasses.

    My heart goes out to the Department and Officer Simmons' family and friends.[:(] At least the p.o.s. gunman got what he deserves, to kill 4 and wound another.[:(!]

    That (in bold) made me smile. My condolences to the family and the department. Loosing a comerad is never fun.
