The newspaper (do you read one)
I have no use for a newspaper in the terms of reading material. I find any news or other content pretty much here on the internet.

Newspapers are good if you read about something on the Internet and want a more indepth look at it a week later. The are useless otherwise and will go the way of the dodo soon. Especially rags like the Washington COMpost. 0 -
absolutely! the newspaper has articles that you are not going to find on the internet, unless of course you are willing to spend allday. I read the paper in the AM and decide what info I want more info on then I research on the net.

The only time I read the paper is if I'm eating out alone. I just can't stand not having something to read while I'm eating. 0 -
Since I discovered that there are things to read in books, I have quit reading newspapers.

While I can get most of my news on-line and it is more up to date, there's still something about sitting down on the can and reading the paper.0 -
There's something to be said about taking a big "Momma Deuce" in the morning while reading the newspaper. Hearing the rustle of the paper unfolding makes me wanna go!!! Best, Joe 0 -
No, I walk outside every morning with my first cup of coffee if it isn't raining, stand on the edge of our driveway overlooking our woods and a small pond. If I wake up, it isn't raining, the Fox News Stock Market ticker shows green arrows, and I don't see a mushroom cloud on the horizon; then it's the beginning of a great day and that pretty much tells me all I need to know, until the next morning. [8D]
However, we stop every Sunday morning on the way to Church so my wife can get the Sunday paper; she likes the ads, etc.!0 -
I read the Cincinnati Enquirer every weekday. Several reasons: simply to see what happened in the world, regardless of whether the truth's being told about it or not. To check the obits and make sure I'm not listed. To work the advanced crossword puzzle (after reading the comics) and wow my co-workers with the vast array of utterly useless info occupying space in my brain. And, to read the editorial columns. I do this not so much to get any sort of "truth" about what's going on in the world, but to get a feel for the various ways different columnists look at the issues. Oddly, I'm more likely to pass on reading a conservative's viewpoint than the ranting of such liberal lunatics as Maureen Dowd and Tom Teepen. It pays to keep tabs on what those folks are thinking, because very little of it will be of benefit to me if ever their ideas are put into action. Another one who's liberal, and very dangerous, because he comes across in a very level-headed manner, is Nicholas Christof (spelling?). He wrote a column after the 2004 election in which he lamented how much we conservative common folk don't know what's really best for us, leading us to vote against our own interests, and stating the need to somehow "educate" us on this very critical matter. "We got to get your thinking right," the warden played by Strother Martin in "Cool Hand Luke" was fond of saying.
One writer I really like -- despite disagreeing with way over half his views on various issues -- is Leonard Pitts. Damned good writer, and, if you can get past his very liberal anti-gun stance (and a few other points of contention), he has some ideas I really like. I believe I'd have to say him, if ever offered the choice of a media personality to sit down and simply talk to for an unspecified length of time. I would prefer those who disagree with me on critical issues (like my gun rights) to be stupid, but, since many aren't, I prefer to talk to, debate with, and be exposed to the thinking of those who have half a brain. Sort of like being matched up with a good sparring partner.0 -
The only daily paper in our part of the state is the ultra-liberal Roanoke Times. I wouldn't like a dog bed with this rag. They refused to accept advertising for the local gun shows. They published a complete list of CCW holders in the state. The bad thing is, this is a mostly conservative state. They are RABID anti-gun. 0 -
Not since the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post (one in the same) announced that they will no longer accept ads for firearms, from non FFL holders. [:(!][:(!][:(!]
Used to have it delivered, told them I wanted it stopped and a refund, and WHY, they did NOT CARE.0 -

NEVER NEVER NEVER!!! I hate all media when it comes to the "news." They lie and tell whatever they want just to have ratings....or sales. They don't care to find out the truth and don't care to tell the whole story on any issue....only the grim, whatever sells side gets attention. I hate them. I hate them all.

The wife works for the local paper, so I read it on occasion, check the obits & local stuff.
Found a obit today of a old friend, I am fixing to head to his layout now.

We're like Heff. Wife gets one on Sunday for the ads. All I want to know I can find on-line. Our local rag makes you pay for an on-line subscription. Never could understand that. I can read the Washington Post, NY Times, Memphis Commercial Appeal, and many other national papers for FREE on-line. But not our local rag! 0 -

Living in a area with numerous small towns, I subscribe and read 2 local rags to keep me up on the local happenings. 0 -
I read my home town paper that only comes out three times a week. Other than that, I get my news off the net 0
