Rant about permits
The Sheriffs dept. in the county I work in is getting slack. In the last two weeks I've had folks come in with permits that have info that don't match their drivers license........for example one customer had a permit with one address and a license with another, he had gotten the permit the day before. I have had several female customers come in with a permit that had (first name)(middle name)(last name) and a license that had (first name)(maden name)(last name)........The thing that has driven me over the edge was a customer today who came in with a permt that had the wrong drivers license number, I could see how the mistake was made because the numbers were just mixed up but someone should have picked up on that before the permit left the sheriffs dept. I told the customer to take it back and get a valid permit.................The freaking information should match on the permit and the drivers license!!!!!!
I'm calling the Sheriff Dept. tomorrow and asking...What the heck????
O.K I'm done now.......Felt it was better to melt down here instead of in front of my customers.

Yea, it sucks.
Folks with CCW's in my state don't have these problems....Wish everyone had a CCW0 -

Does your state REQUIRE that the person change their address on their permit, when they change their address? Many states do not. Here in Virginia is one of them. As long as the permit is not expired, it does not matter what address is on it.0 -

To BATF requires that I recieve a valid permit. If the information on the permit does not match the information on the drivers license the permit is not valid even if it has not expired. This is what a BATF agent has told me in the past while checking our records.
Just like a person here in NC has a CCW permit.....it is not valid unless you have a valid drivers license with it. If the information on the permit and the drivers license do not match or you do not have your drivers license with you the CCW permit is not valid.

That may be an NC law, but it is not a national law. Virginia doesn't even have a process to update the address on your permit. Mine is 4.5 years old and I have lived at two different addresses since it was issued and it is still valid. And since I have a valid VA permit, the one gun a month law does not apply.

Yes. Virginia Code Section 18.2-308, which governs the issuance of resident concealed handgun permits, makes no provisions for changes of address. A permit once issued remains valid until the expiration date is met, or upon suspension or revocation, regardless of the change of address.

You got me second guessing myself on the CCW law about the address change in NC so I looked it up again.
Article 54B 14-415.11. NC CCW permit
(d)
A person who is issued a permit shall notify the sheriff who issued the permit of any change in the persons permanent address within 30 days after the change of address.
This is for NC CCW's........I'm sure other states differ.0 -

In Ada County, if you have a CCW, from them, then the background check is not required. However I have a national CCW and they will not recongize it to forgo the background check. They suggest I get an Ada county CCW, and I politely refuse, as mine is better than their's. And by the way they want $54 for the permit, and $20 for renewal. Sorry mine is free. 0 -
My "permit" doesn't match my driver's license because I'm a resident of IA but am stationed elsewhere. I had an Iowa pistol permit while I was going to college in Iowa but was a resident of the state of Minnesota at the time and had a Minnesota driver's license.
There are circumstances where the two will not legitimately match. Most places I've purchased guns are happy to take vehicle registration or a recent bill sent to the current address as proof of residence.
I keep my Iowa driver's license because I am a resident of the state of Iowa and am required to possess that along with military ID and proper leave authorization signed by my Commander in order to hunt deer in Iowa without a license/tag.
Heck, I found a GREAT county in NY who issued my CCW. They re-issued me the CCW with my current Missouri address listed on it just in case I wanted to come back to NY and carry while I'm "passing through". I think I'm going to frame it. A NY CCW with a MO address listed on it.0
