Preservative for your guns

I used Break-free but it has been harder to find lately unless i send off for it by mail order,what do you guys use on your guns that you dont use very often to keep rust away ? Ive been told the Mil.dont use breakfree anymore, is that right

    I used break free in the military, but this stuff is great.

    I found Break Free at Wal*Mart. Also Rem-Oil.

    I also use Gibbs. Gibbs is good stuff, but is sold only through independent distributors.

    For surface rust preventative, a light coating of gun grease, not oil, applied with a cloth, gives better long term protection for storage.

    I mix Break-Free and RIG grease and coat inside and out. I have had pistols in Safe Deposit boxes for years with this treatment and no problems.

    i have used 3 in one machine oil ever since i have been a kid. i still have all the same guns i had then and they are all in excellent shape

    I use STRIKE-HOLD and am about out so I'm going to be ordering a case of it real soon. I used it in Iraq. I would tip the barrel muzzle down and hose the entire gun with it inside and out until it was soaked. All of the funk would pour off the gun because STRIKE-HOLD is a solvent and a dry-lube all at once. It seemed to repel dust. After all the nasty crap was washed away (with no scrubbing) I would let the whole think stand up muzzle down in the corner and it would result in a dry finish. Then I'd swab out the barrel and it was ready to go. Dry Lube/Preservative/Anti-Corrosive/Solvent all in one aerosol can.
