Prayers for Oldgunner UPDATE III

Ella Cook, his sister posted this on MC this morning. Please keep him in your prayers, OG is one of the good ones.

For all of you who know oldgunner, he is my brother. He wanted me to send this message to tell you all that he is in the hospital and having surgery today. He has a brain tumor which is in the speech center part of the brain. They will try to remove it today. The last thing the doctor told us was that if they remove it, he will never be able to speak again.

We don't know a lot. The doctor is certain that it is malignant.

Please keep him in your prayers.

He will be back on as soon as he is able.

Update from Ella

You all have sent some of the most thoughtful and caring messages. I have been telling him about them.

He is doing really well right now. They moved him out of ICU today. The surgeon sent in one of his associates in. He told Jimmy that they had sent off the specimen and wouldn't have a result for 3 or 4 days. That's all he knows.

He has a huge wound on the side of his head. I counted 49 staples. It looks terrible, but he says it isn't painful.

I will try to be better about posting updates. I have been so busy, I have just let it drop. I do apologize and I will try to do better.

Thank you all for everything. Jimmy has some wonderful friends.

UPDATE II
Hi All,

He is talking. I'm not sure what that means. The surgeon hasn't come in yet!!!! I am going over in a few minutes. Perhaps he will have more information.

I will ask him if he would like to receive phone calls. I know he would love it, but he has a hard time talking sometimes, so I'm not sure. I'll let you all know.

Thank you so much for the thoughts and the prayers. I do know that prayer changes things, so who knows?? I'm trying to be positive. That was the first thing he said to me after the surgery, "We gotta think positive."

He is really pleased when I tell him about all the messages. He misses you all.

UPDATE III
Jimmy came home today. We got him there about 3 p.m. I just got home and thought I'd let you all know. He is very thankful for all his friends. He isn't up to taking very many phone calls yet, but hopefully he will be soon. I was worried about getting him into the house (he has about 6 steps to go up), but he did great. He is in his recliner taking it easy. Our brother, Jerry, is staying with him tonight. We will all take good care of him.

He will start radiation and chemo in about 3 weeks. He says if the chemo makes him sick, he isn't taking it. They are only going to give him one pill each day along with the radiation. He will take a treatment every day for 6 weeks and then one chemo pill per month for a year. So far, that is all they have planned for him.

He will be back on here as soon as he gets a little stronger, but he says thanks to all of you.

I'll try to keep you uPdated on his progress.
