Have You Ever Been to Pigeon Forge??
Stopped for a day a few years years ago and ended up staying for three. Have to do it again. Loved the Smokey Mountains.

The Forge is a great place, but I like Gatlinburg better.
Used to have a Chalet there for a place to hibernate for a few days at a time.0 -

Man I was dowm there (Gatlinburg) on our honeymoon with the ex... we were up in the hills tp a falls that I no longer recall the name of. we were like the 1st ones up there that day... we could hear a group of college aged talking about bears. I gave my best growl from above and then me and Liz ran past them like a bat out of Hell..I yelled My God they killed Billy as I want past...We ran all the way to the car, Girls about a hundred yds behind....

I went once. My wife and I had gone down to Cumberland Falls in KY for the 4th of July weekend, and decided a drive down to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge would be cool. There was a car convention of some sort going on -- the worst traffic I've seen since leaving the Los Angeles are many years ago. To cap it off, going back -- the state of Tennessee, in its debatable wisdom, had decided to do routine road work on the northbound side of the interstate, and backed up traffic from almost the Kentucky border to just outside Gatlinburg. A highway patrolman on a motorcycle finally (after well over two hours) split the lanes to see what the problem was. A few minutes later traffic started moving (except for the cars that had overheated or run out of gas). When we passed the trouble spot there was a highway crew loading cones into their truck, with the LEO supervising. No visible debris from a wreck, no sign of recent repairs to the road, no bags of trash or dead animals or rocks or anything else on the truck bed that would justify these guys (under orders, I realize -- not their fault) shutting down one of the only two lanes getting people from the northern part of the country out of the Gatlinburg area.

Given my interest in the historical aspect of muzzleloading -- David Crockett, all that -- I really, REALLY wanted to like Tennesse, and it was a beautiful state, what I saw of it, once you were outside Gatlinburg and all the rest of that over-hyped crap. But any place run by people that stupid won't get a return visit from me.
Your results may vary, and probably have, but two hours of establishing a community with the other gridlocked drivers around us was enough to sour me for life.0 -
I live in the Smokey Mountains, about ten miles across the North Carolina line. I live on top of a mountain in the wilderness. I have a hand made old time log cabin with a stone fireplace.

what gets me is how generic box stores and basic look-alike spawrl both have crawled into all the corners of america and ruined it. if you give them the chance odds are theyd put a home depot on el capitain in yosimite if they could get away with it. im sure p.f was beautiful at one time, but to me it just looked like a another interstate exit. 0 -

We went to Gatlinburg for our Honeymoon 37 years ago and we went over to Pigeon Forge on one of our little excursions in the Smokies. Actually, we went back for our 10th and 30th anniversaries, too. We enjoyed the area as well as each other. It is a whole lot more commercialized than it was 37 years ago ... or maybe I didn't really notice! [:D] 0 -

Well our plans are made... Departing next Saturday Feb 23rd - 3 days in Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge. Take in a few shows and enjoy the sights then on to Florida gulf side for 4 weeks. Nashville on the way home - never been to the Oprey so looking forward to that. [:)]0 -

i love the area but i go across the mountain to townsend tn not quite as busy and still within a hour drive to everything 0 -
