Please beware and be fore-warned. Even though I always knew that
this is a dangerous habit, I must confess that I had sub-consciously
practiced it in the past, so this is also a wake-up call to myself.

Never, ever answer a cell phone while it is being RECHARGED!!
A few days ago, a person was recharging his cell phone at home. Just at that time a call Came in and he answered it with the instrument still connected to the outlet. After a few seconds electricity flowed into the cell phone unrestrained and the young man was thrown to the ground with a heavy thud. His parents rushed to the room only to find him unconscious, with a weak heartbeat and burnt fingers. He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. Cell phones are a very useful modern invention. However, we must be aware that it can also be an instrument! of death.
Never use the cell phone while it is hooked to the electrical outlet!

It has nothing to do with whether or not you are using the phone. Some phones, along with other devices, have been packaged with faulty batteries that do not recharge properly and can get hot and even explode. Usually the company will do a voluntary recall after only a handful of cases. There are many more dangerous things to be worrying about. I'm sure its one of those things that is about as likely to happen as being struck by lightening. So, unless lightning sends you scurrying under the bed where you also keep a fresh pair of skivvies handy, I wouldn't bother with this. 0 -

I just like to be sure that someone who is less technology literate doesn't read this post and freak out.
For some reason some people are prone to beleive everything they read. My personal philosophy is to doubt anything I read/see on the internet, unless of course it is purely entertainment.0 -
I read the Snopes link on this one. While I agree that it's possible for cell phone batteries to overheat and explode, it is not possible for one to be electrocuted by one. Cell phone batteries are at the most, 6 volts d.c. The 120 volt house current ends at the little square transformer that plugs into the outlet. This transformer, by it's design, limits the amount of current going to the battery. It converts 120 volt house current in d.c. current, measured in milliamps. With ideal conditions, (user having a bad heart, standing in water, etc.) it takes only 15 milliamps to start the heart to fibrulate. It is highly unlikely that this is what happened in this case.
Also, the burn pattern on the bed and on the person's skin, does not show evidence of electrocution. I won't say it didn't happen, just that it's highly unlikely.0 -
