NRA-ILA Investigating Citigroup Issues
Friday, January 11, 2008
In late December, 2007, a large and well-known firearms dealer was informed by a company called First Data -- which operates as Citi Merchant Services under license from Citigroup, Inc. -- that it would no longer handle the dealer's credit card processing business. The company, CDNN Investments, is well known to gun owners and has been operating in Texas for decades.
In the letter from First Data, a company official informed CDNN that the account was terminated on the grounds that CDNN was selling firearms in violation of federal law -- which was, and is, completely untrue. In the letter, a company official, June Rivera-Mantilla, made a number of misstatements about the law and misrepresented CDNN's operations in general.
NRA-ILA is in the process of communicating with Citigroup and First Data to see if this problem can be corrected. We'll pass along more information about our efforts as soon as possible.
To voice your concern over this outrageous policy to Citi Merchant Services and First Data Corp., please contact First Data at (800) 735-3362.

Here is an example of where your NRA funds are going. Why does the NRA feel the need to investigate a credit company? Why does the companies RULES have any meaning to the NRA? It is no different than a bank NOT wanting to loan you money to buy guns. If you don't like the rules, take your business elsewhere. This isn't an issue of gunrights, but an issue of business practices. The NRA is obviouly wasting member resources for a publicity stunt, again.
But what do I know, I am just an NRA "hater" according to some. [:0]0 -
I am just guessing but I think the NRA is more concerned about the freezing of several thousands of dollars of a gun distributor because of misinformation about interstate firearms sales.
The NRA is trying to educate and clear up the misinformed about what federal law has to say about the interstate transfer of firearms and not like you think it is only about whether you have a credit card with this large citibank.0 -
Well if they illegally froze their accounts......Federal Courts are the means to stop a bank from trying to control Uncle Sam's Commerce Powers.
To heck with the NRA...Federal District Court.
They will get lots of money back.[}:)]0 -
I hear what you are saying MVP, but I side with tarter. The courts are going to decide this, and the vendor will get whats theirs, with interest. I belive the NRA is doing this as a P.R. stunt. IF this were an individual selling one gun, would the NRA have as much interest in this type of case? No. This is an attempt for an end result of the NRA getting padding in thier pockets.
I don't agree with what the bank is doing. I don't agree with the NRA sticking their nose in it either. This is a decision for the courts, by reason of law. This case should be clearly held to favor cdnn. The nra would be better off to put it's energies to repealing unconstitutional laws, many of which they put their "stamp" of approval on, including the laws regaurding this case.0 -
I'm glad to hear something as substantial as the NRA-ILA is looking into this.
I've been seeing this Citibank issue around the web and reserve making any comments or decisions until it's confirmed by ether CDNN or a reliable news source.
There's just too much b/s on the web. Thus the need for things such as snopes but they have nothing on this yet.0 -

Although I will not fault the NRA for stepping up to the plate on this issue instead of being a bench warmer,
I will agree with you that there are more pressing issues they could be working on.0 -
MVP,
Thank you for the calm reply. I appreciate that we can have some "middle" ground. Sometimes when an issue comes up concerning this organization, both sides can get pretty heated.0 -
F-it according to some, FFL's make to much money as it is............ 0
