I must really VENT...
back in the beginning of january I was admitted to the hospital for 2 days, in on thursday morning, out on friday evening. I came thru the E.R. delivered by ambulance. I got an IV, some meds, a cat scan and an mri. there was no surgery involved, no extensive life saving procedure was performed.
I have pretty descent insurance, so I was not worried. I had hernia surgery at the same hospital a few years back, where my part of the bill was app $900 total. well, the bill came today $1300 what the... for a room, some pills, and a childs portion of food. maybe next time I will let them cut me open, if it reduces my bill.
I put a phone call in to the hospital billing dept. they will check with my ins. to see if anything was underpaid. $1300 to lie in bed, barely see a doctor, and i did not even get those free gowns, i checked in wearing my own cloths and left wearing the same thing.
so much for my tax refund this year.

Put yourself in my shoes. November 17, 2007 I had a massive heart attack. I drove myself to the hospital. They sent me to another hospital via ambulance and 3 days later my bill was $64,000. I stayed there for 13 days. I haave no idea what the final total bill was. I'm scared to see. I'm glad you're back and able to vent. Gods speed. 0 -

you got off CHEAP...been paying my own way for two years now till medicare kicks in to help....you be surprised at no insurance cash pay discount...but haven't had real bad like drjew 0 -

This story happened to a co-worker several years ago. I'll call him "Ernie." We were employed at a small business. The owner was Ernie's cousin. I'll call him "Bert." Just so the names have been changed to protect....somebody!
Now, the business provided individual health insurance and family insurance was available (at substantial cost). I had insurance through another source. Ernie was purchasing insurance for his wife. As were a few other employees.
Ernie feels kinda weird one weekend, so he goes to the ER. His blood pressure is high, docs are concerned about his heart. So they admit him, put him on a bunch of meds.
You know where this is going, right?
Yep, got the bill from the hospital, docs, labwork. The insurance wasn't good. Bert's business is not in the best financial shape. So he pays what he can and lets some other bills side. The insurance....he let that slide for a few months. Neglected to tell anyone!
So Ernie got a lawyer and was prepared to sue everyone. But who could he really sue? Besides Bert? The guy who didn't pay the premium! But remember? Bert's his cousin! Can't sue him. So that plan just fell through. As you probably already surmised, Bert's an asshat who only cares what happens to Bert! But that's a whole other story.
And in the end, the major players got paid. They garnished Ernie's wages. He might still be paying for all I know. Neither of us works there anymore!0 -

Our insurance at work switched from one company to Blue Cross Blue Shield. I have to go to my hip doctor every year for x-rays and blood work because my replacements were experimental at the time. I have the AFLAC Med Reimbursement that I set up to pay for the yearly expense.
I hated having to change insurance but, the BCBS has given me and my company alot of discounts and now I'm scrambling to get to the $ # that I set on the reimbursement so I don't lose it.0 -

...Dang drjew, I had the same thing back 4-5 years ago, quad by-pass; 5 days total. I left 2 1/2 days after the surgery, food sucked...and I walked my azz off to make them happy, to get OUT asap and to make sure I was really alive ([:0][:D])...and my bill was $120,000+...bend over, grab ankles, bite bullet...[:D]

I now have 5 coronary stents and am looking at going back in for a detached artery. Cardiologist recommended gastric bypass. I only hope I can get the insurance company to agree. 0 -
wife was in this past fall for a minor out-patient surgery...3 hours from the time she went in till we were in the car going home.
finally saw the bill between hospital charges for the use of the o.r.,doctors fees, anesthesia etc. came to just under $10,000!0 -

Want to hear something unheard of, I went in with heart failure, put on a LVAD left ventricular assist device, lived in the hospital for 2 and1/2 months, got a heart transplant. Walked out 7 days later with a 410,000.00 bill, My wifes insurance, she worked at Nationwide, payed all but 5.00, a dinner she ate or really just looked at. Once and awhile you catch a break and the system works.[:)] 0 -
