    If that was at the jail, I doubt that it was a police officer, most of Florida's confinement facilities are run by a contracted company. Sort of like the security guard companies..Only cops around in those facilities are the arresting officers usually making reports.

    What does it matter if it was a DO or an LEO? Depending on the state, DOs have to go through a hiring process, background check, and some type of academy, etc just like LEOs do. In many states a detention deputy goes through the same process and academy as a road deputy. So, this type of action is a disgrace to the entire profession, not just "DOs".

    Actually he is a quad, the term quad means all four limbs were effected by the spinal cord injury. it dosent mean he has no use of his arms but that his arms were effected, in other words he may have lost use of his trriceps or movement of fingers etc etc. i am a c-5 quad and i can use my arms but i have no use of my hands and my triceps no longer work either . mc .

    Once again I'm confused, why is he in the "cheap hospital wheelchair with handles" at the jail and in a sleek modern one while walking the dog ( no pun intended)? Did he not have a wheelchair while he was arrested while driving? I agree the behavior of the jailers looks horrendous, but there once again seems to be a few mysterious circumstances untold in the news report.

    pure speculation but he may have left it at home. i have been known to go places with folks and not take my chair with me. its stupid cause anything could happen but, if i know im just along for the ride and not getting out i have left mine at home several times in situations like this. if that was the case [ maybe just going to a drive thru to grab a bite etc.. ] then its very understandable that it was not with him . mc .

    HTF can a reasonable person even QUESTION what happened. The guy was DUMPED on his face. They had no trouble man-handling him BACK into his seat, so WHY did they feel it necessary to simply upset his chair.

    It matters not what kind of chair he was in, nor why he was in it. They didn't have to do that.

    I know, jail is not a nice place. I know, if you dont want that type of treatment stay out of there. I know, we don't have all the facts. I know, they are not REAL lawmen. I heard all that CRAP before.

    We'll see it again, folks. Cops WILL be cops.

    Yep, he was right about the cop worship, alot of people just think they are all good. And im sure most of them are really good officers, but thats no reason for them not to remain suspect.


    Many in the business are good, upright and moral people, however, we are merely a cross-section of society as a whole, albeit a supposedly more "select" group as evidenced by the background standards and other requirements.

    On the second point, you are absolutely correct. We should always be viewed with a certain amount of skepticism and extra watching. Since we are empowered by law to suspend ones constitutional rights in certain circumstances, this tends to breed an "us -vs- them" mentality in many police.

    Those who take on a "Peace Officer" role along with its accompanying views of the proper role of police in our society, rather than those who embrace the "LEO" role, mentality and mindset, will certainly tend to commit far fewer egregious actions upon the citizenry than the LOE crowd.

    It is what it is.

    I do not understand it but the jerking is involuntary. My Brother was dating a Lady that was a quad and she would get the spasms too. She also had limited use of her arms so she could drive. Don

    I am not confined to a chair most of the time, but Ive got a
    nice lite weight I can carry in my truck, I have a nice power chair. But its really how I feel depends if or which one I take

    Dan..... I Calif, and probably many other states if you dont have your license or other identification with you, you "must" be taken to jail. This applies to every stop, even for a cracked taillight. The ofcr has no descretion.

    In addition, refusing to sign the citation is an automatic trip to the pokey. This applies to ANY citation, even for equipment violations.

    I dont know the circumstances of this guys arrest, but the actions of that jailer are way out of line. I doubt she can justify what she did, and if thats the case, she needs a new career flipping burgers at Mc Donalds.

    You make a very good (and true) point. So why aren't the good, upright and moral people trying their utmost to get the psychos, sociopaths, sadists, incompetents, and just all around jack-offs fired or put in prison?

    Would people accept a preacher that threw a drunk every Friday or (w)hored around? How about a fireman that SET fires? So why do we accept politicians that lie and cops that break the law and torture citizens?

    As long as the good police tolerate and shield bad cops, they will all be tarred with the same brush. Is anyone really surprised? [xx(]
