HK didn't make the PS90 available to us ... FN did.
And according to the word at the SHOT Show, FN is also making the SCAR-L(.223) and SCAR-H(.308) Semi-auto version for civilians ...
I'm convinced HK doesn't give two hoots about civilians [V]0 -

HK does not export many weapons to US citizians because they can't. There is an import ban you know..........
BTW, I suppose you also did not realize HK has a plant near completion in NH built specifically to make a SA version of the HK416 and 417 for civilians. I'm sure they did that because of their deep contempt for us all.

I'd say no, it won't happen. The MP7 has been a flop in every market they offer it. There's just no demand to replace the MP5K as the PDW weapon of choice.0 -
I heard that HK bought property but abandon plans to build a factory when the US didn't adopt the G36 ... hadn't heard anything since, but I don't hang around the HK boards much since I've lost interest in them.
HK can and does import the SL8 and a few pistols but in very limited numbers, they don't really try to temp the civilian buyer, and if you have ever tried to get customer service/support as a civilian, forget it ... I've been down that road with the SL8 and a cracked trigger housing, was told it was normal when they refused service. I had it converted to the Special Weapons G36 package and sold it a couple years later.
As I mentioned above, FN does import several weapons as does SiG, however the 556 is built domestically ... and reportedly, both have outstanding customer service.
I think part of the MP7's failure is that it is so similar to the Steyr TMP/SPP, and uses specialty ammo (4.6x30 HK I believe)... for reason's I really don't understand the TMP/SPP was never very popular. I don't remember ever seeing any reliability issues with it, I like my SPP! At any rate, as stated, the MP5 is "the" PDW weapon of choice for just about every agency.0 -
The SL8 and USC were designed specifically to meet US import requirements since HK did not have US plant and therefore could not export the G36 or UMP for civilian sales in the US. Why would a manufacturer go out of their way to make a rifle knowing it would not be used my the military or LE if they did care about the US civilian market?
There was a news release in I think August of 2007 saying they would be ready for production in mid 2008. If you do a google search for NH HK wilcox you should find it. Wilcox is an existing tactical company that made an agreement with HK to produce HKs in the US to avoid the import problems.
As for customer service, I've never heard anyone speak poorly of HK's service. I've not had any direct contact with them since I've never had a problem with my HKs, but everyone I know of who has dealt with them had high praise for their treatment with their lifetime guarentees.
FN and Sig I have also heard have good service.0 -
Just to be clear, life time warranty is only to the original owner. I was the original owner of the SL8 I had problems with and they did refuse to replace the fire control housing ... saying that the crack I had was normal. This was my only encounter with HK warranty / customer service.
Maybe there will be a rekindle of interest on my part, but that remains to be seen ... I still have several HK firearms which I am very fond. It looks and sounds like they are going after the military contracts now.
