Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University
Dave Ramsey was mentioned on another thread, so I checked out his site. I've heard him before on the radio. Has anyone gone to the Financial Peace University classes, had them online, or purchased the videos? Just wondering if it's worth the money. I need to get back on track.

Just use your money to PayOffAllYourDebts. 0 -
It's worth the money. Dave Ramsey is the Real Deal. I listen to him on the radio in the afternoon.
If you don't have the $125 to take his course, then buy his book. The course is usually $125 per FAMILY UNIT, and most of it covers the pile of materials you get.
What Dave "preaches" about finances is not necessarily new. Crown Financial and dozens of other organizations pretty much espouse the same thing. It is a formula and discipline for eradicating debt. We should all pursue that goal as quickly as possible, regardless of whom we learn it from.0 -
That is going to be tough, since I don't owe anyone anything. 0 -
I like Dave Ramsey. I am trying to follow his teachings. I have a paid off house and that is a sweet deal. Also have two, 12 and 13 year old paid off trucks.
Still owe $6K on the Visa card, got to work on that one.0 -
There are a lot of "Financial Gurus" out there that wouldn't know a budget from a buttplate. Dave ain't one of 'em. He gives real-world advice that will help you pay your debts. Our sister station runs his program, but I never get to listen. So I borrowed his book (screw buying it: we're broke, man)and we've been using advice from that to pay down debts ever since.
I'm pretty impressed with his stuff.0 -
Hey Colonel: looks like you got a great 5000 post giveaway, we can win and pass the book around, I'm sure we could all use some good advice. 0 -
Dave's debt reduction philosophy is 2nd to none. His "Total Money Makeover" is excellent. Also get the "Total Money Makeover Workbook" to go with it.
I wouldn't pay for the classes until I read these.0 -
For those so inclined www.crown.org is the best financial plan available in my opinion.
CAUTION: Christian website.0 -
Dave is all right. I bought 10 of his Total Money Makeover books, and gave them away at Christmas to people I figured could use the help. I got nothing but positive feedback. 0 -

Once more from the top:
I borrowed the book.
Why buy it if you're in debt?
I hadn't realized I was coming up on the 5K mark.
Sucking up to the moderators can sure rack up one's post count (Ya FEELIN' me, nunn!??)
Lemme poke around and see what would make a good giveaway...0 -

I agree Sav...Larry Burkett was one wise man...I used to listen to him on the radio all the time. I really don't know much about the guy he turned the ministry over too, but considering the wisdom Larry had, I'm sure he's just as good.0 -
I listen to Dave when he is on and I am in the car. He is intertaining and passes out good advice. I have not owed anyone anything since I paid my house off about 10 years ago. Against his advice, I do have a credit card. I usually use my debit but some transactions I just do not want on debit. Simply because it gives someone too much access to my bank account.
Many years ago, I worked at a Finance company and then installment loan dept. of a bank. I have seen too many times what overextended and too many bills can do.
If I ever need advice, I would go to him in a minute. He is one Christian that I will gladly listen to. Hey, he tells you how to save money, not his hand out trying to get you to send him money. What a switch! Tom0 -
I lived with my Grandparents when I was 12 through 16 and Grandpa was a very smart Businessman who taught me everything I ever needed to know about manageing money.
At the time I didn't know it was important lessons that would still be valuable today, to the popint of not oweing anyone a dime except for a mortgage.
I tried to teach the same stuff to my kids but when your wife doesn't ascribe to the same thoughts then the kids take the easy route.0 -
I went to the class and had no debt or mortgage at the time, so I didn't need to go because of a debt load. I did learn a lot of things, however, that I was able to change about the way I had my money distributed (insurance was the biggie), that has enabled me to have even more cashflow than I already do. We were able to pay cash for a good used car this past Oct 1, put in a new A/C unit when ours bombed this summer, cash. So I'd recommend it to anyone, regardless of your financial position.
Hope this helps...

Also, he is dead on about insurance. That I did not know when I bought my whole life policy and bought the line of goods the agent sold me. That slime they tell you should be illegal.
Anyway, term insurance and put the difference in a good mutual fund for the term (10-20years) and you will be many dollars ahead. God only knows how much money I have lost by going the whold life route. Tom0 -
I heard an honest insurance agent once say, "If I sell term life, I can't eat, but if I sell whole life, I can't sleep."
That is a far cry from what my ex-father-in-law, a Farmers Insurance agent, had to say about insurance. He sold no term life, and absolutely lied to clients about what a good investment his whole life product was.0
