Why would a seller close an auction early??
I have been watching http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=88907231 since it started.
Today I made my first bid which was not high enough.
So I left work a bit early, went to the bank to move some funds around and went home to make a higher bid.
Guess what??
Auction closed just a bit after my previous bid.
Dammit, I was going to get my first Tommy for the NFA safe!
Why would a seller close the auction 4 hrs early??
The bids could only go up.
What am I missing?

I recently ended an auction after answering several questions from an individual. He seemed to want to argue about price before I even sold the item and it just wasn't worth arguing over so I ended the listing so I wouldn't have to deal with it. If he was arguing before he even purchased the item, what chance was there for a successful outcome?
I have also ended an auction because a buyer was willing to give me a bid I was satisfied with before the auction finished, so I added a buy-it-now for the bidder.
I have ended an auction because a friend told me he wanted the item and there were no bids on it.
I have also ended one without a bid because I decided I really did not want to sell the item that badly.
BUT, I never ended an auction with a potentially winning bid on it except for adding a buy-it-now as described above.
If you want to be sure you get a chance at an item, you need to enter a bid. Prior to that, it is the sellers choice if he wishes to consider removing it. But your bid, (above any reserve), stops the chance of that happening.0 -
I did ask.
No reply.
And I did bid $12,555.00 and was willing to go $1100.00 higher on the next bid.
I just don't understand why it would end early?

havent you ever gone to a store and then ran home and told your wife you just saw the best deal in town? then you go back and its gone?
rule number one of commerce....YOU are not the only one out there interested in the item.
money talks, all others...ask general discussion questions on gunbroker.[:o)]0 -
1. He decided not to sell it.
2. He sold it off the auction.
3. The current high bidder, or one of the other bidders, contacted the seller and made a side deal to end the auction early and sell it now.
It happens. I don't end early, but some do.0
