STUNNING facts I learned at the gunshow!

I went to a gun show in December here in Kansas city. It's been a long time since I went to one.

I was there for two reasons: I wanted to sell a lightly used (less than 100 rounds through it) Taurus PT-145 Pro and pick up a snubby .38 or .357. I accomplished both satisfactorily.

Over the course of the day, many people looked over the pistol I had for sale. From them, I learned some stunning facts that I thought I would share with all of you.

FACT #1:
The .45 ACP cartridge is TOTALLY inaccurate. You will be lucky to hit a man sized target a 25 feet.
This was news to my ears, as I have competed in bowling pin shoots with my 1911 and done ok. My Taurus would hit pretty much anything I aimed at if I did my part. I'm sure this person's opinion came after lots of personal experience... This one came up several times.

FACT #2:
A .45 will break a wrist pretty quick in a small gun like that.
This was told to me first by a man who was carrying around a Mossberg 590 for sale and looked like he actually 'worked for a living.' I didn't mention, of course, that my friend's little wife had tried the pistol with no problems or complaints. She also managed to hit the target, which was actually more than 25 feet away. *GASP!* I heard this a few more times as well.

FACT #3:
Nobody uses 1911s anymore except collectors.
Well, that's good to know. Nice to know that those pictures from Iraq of US Marines wielding 1911s, news stories of the Harrison, Arkansas police adopting the 1911 as their duty arm, and all the pictures of various shooting champions using 1911 variants are totally fake.

Now if I had heard this from young kinds whose exposure to firearms consisted solely in their hours playing CounterStrike, I wouldn't have thought much about it. BUT THESE WERE GROWN MEN TELLING ME THESE THINGS. And I didn't just hear them once, but several times each from different people.

What's the deal here? Are people just getting dumber?

    I didnt know the .45 would break a wrist, or had such a "bad" recoil....also thought they were a bit more accurate than what was stated...

    Guess I best tell Classic to get rid of my Colt 1911A1...after all, I dont want a broken wrist....Never had a prob with recoil or not hitting what I wanted too, but guess I dont know any better seeing how I didnt know it would break my wrist...[}:)][}:)][}:)]

    The folks that told you all of these wonderful nuggets of information didn't happen to be medal recipients from the last Special Olympics, were they?

    I think these folks were complaining about the 1911 and .45 ACP because they were either stoned, stupid, or such incredible pansies that they can't handle anything above a BB gun.

    I learned this too from a local gun dealer. I went in with a Ruger P95DC 9mm in excellent condition and was looking to trade for a gun that would be easier to carry once I get my CCW.


    I traded in a P95DC it was only 5 months old, I bought it new for $365.00, I only got $250.00 towards my P229

    it has always amased me how many experts are located at a gun show.
    most couldn't find their heads if they wern't attached to their necks. i've had dealers tell me the most bull than anyone else on earth.

    Sounds like KC could use some real knowledgeable gun show participants! As far as a .45, I've shot several that I own in competition now for almost 25 years and would be the VERY last gun I'd ever part with.

    Wrist breaker? Where did that come from?

    30's RULES:

    1) Most gun owners know little about guns.
    2) Most gun owners who know little will give you plenty of wrong advice.
    3) Most gun owners cannot shoot a handgun worth a damn and will blame a firearm performance based on pure lack of practice or talent.

    This is from the folks on your side of the table: "It's brand new, only fired one box."

    Sorry, folks, but it doesn't matter how few rounds have been fired, even zero. Once you buy it and leave the shop with it, it is a USED gun and will be priced accordingly.

    Rather strange the dealers NEVER remember that little bit of info when it comes to selling their stuff, but remember it very very well when it comes to buying our stuff......

    Not true. We sell pistols all the time that look new, are in the box, with all the factory goodies, and even have the original grease in them. But, we didn't buy them from a distibutor, and we don't know for sure that they haven't previously been sold at retail, so they are sold as used. If we know it's new, we say it's new, but otherwise, it's used.

    The two people I heard this from would then proceed to try to talk and talk about how totally fantastic and superior in every way to every other firearm the Glock was.

    Got nothing against the Glock if it works for ya, but just for the record:

    Well damn strange the the dealers USED prices are everyone else's NEW prices....

    I am just speaking of the dealers in this area at gun shows...I dont know anything about yours...but some of the comments from others after being at a gunshow in Texas leads one to believe the dealers are no different anywhere...

    Well, maybe that's why them other dealers bring home most of their stuff, and we sell 75-80 guns at a show, and buy 50-60, because we do things just a little bit differently.

    Nope. License is in Texas, so we are limited to Texas shows.
