Speed Traps
My wife and I meet some friends at the beach this weekend. We drove different cars and the other couple got a speeding ticket. They went through a speed trap and the officer said that since they were not from the area that he would write them a ordinace ticket for 35 dollars. The policeman followed them to the courthouse to pay the ticket. They have a court just for them tickets on the same day. They paid 35 dollars and were gone. They were happy that they did not get a speeding ticket i was mad because its bull crap.[:(]

The Newport Beach listings seemed very accurate, especially along Newport Coast Road which is very wide, fast and relatively new roadway. South bound has a very steep downhill gadiant so speeds build up quickly.

we have one here in north florida, lawtey, before you get there, a big billboard tell you speed trap 4.6 miles ahead. 0 -

That list isn't the greatest... but it is helpful. Some of those "tips" are a few years old. But, we've been using it whenever we do long road trips. While we don't speed by practice, sometimes we do keep up with the flow of traffic. 0 -

the word 'trap' is unconstitutional according to liberals, so they must list where the trap is so they cant say if caught, they werent trapped; rather, they were stupid not to check. 0 -

I don't know what this guy's definition of "speed trap" is, but it isn't mine. The tone of the site struck me as negative and biased.
I looked up my city, Greenville, Texas. The only "speed trap" shown is SH 34 (Wesley Street) north of FM 1570. I don't know how this can be a "trap," since the road is two-lane, with no place to hide. This stretch of road once was a 50 mph zone, and was lowered to 40, not because the "rundown" business owners want people to see their businesses, but because of a lot of new business and residential development and increased traffic in the area.
When I work traffic in this area, and I do, I don't "sit on the side of the road." I work it moving, and I don't stop anyone who isn't going 55. Anyone going that fast really stands out, and that is too fast for this stretch of highway.
Believe it or not, speed limits are not set so that the police can write tickets and generate revenue. This highway is a state highway and under the control of the TXDOT, and their engineers decide what the speed limit should be, where the passing zones should be, etc. and they don't usually consult us.
By the way, Texas has a "speed trap" law in place. If a particular municipality collects more than a set percentage of its total revenue in traffic fines, the excess has to be turned over to the State Comptroller. Sorta removes the incentive to raise revenue by writing lots of tickets.
I can't argue with the allegation that Hunt County is a training ground for DPS troopers; we do seem to get a lot of newbies, and they do work Interstate 30 pretty hard. But, then again, Interstate 30 is a major drug trafficking corridor, and the troopers have made some pretty serious drug seizures by stopping cars for "minor" traffic violations.
The answer is, "DON'T SPEED." Especially don't speed if you are hauling a load of illegal drugs. That's just stupid.0
