If you want someone who will eat whatever you put in front of him and never says its not quite as good as his mother made it...
Then buy a dog.
If you want someone always willing to go out, at any hour, for as long and wherever you want

If you want someone who will never touch the remote, doesn't care about football, and can sit next to you as you watch romantic movies ....
Then buy a dog.
If you want someone who is content to get up on your bed just to warm your feet and whom you can push off if he snores ....
Then buy a dog.
If you want someone who never criticizes what you do, doesn't care
if you are pretty or ugly, fat or thin, young or old, who acts as if every word you say is especially worthy of listening to, and loves you unconditionally, perpetually .
Then buy a dog.
But, on the other hand, if you want someone who will never come when you call, ignores you totally when you come home, leaves hair all over the place, walks all over you, runs around all night and only comes home to eat and sleep, and acts as if your entire existence is solely to ensure his happiness...
Then buy a cat!

If you are a control freak that wants your animal to obey and be slavishly devoted to you rather than think for itself, buy a dog.
If you like walking something 3 times a day even in the bitter cold and carrying around plastic baggie- buy a dog.
If you like something that goes nutzo when you leave the home because it requires constant human attention, buy a dog.
If you like something that bites buy a dog.
If you like something that thinks for itself, that requires clean up but no walks, that doesn't give a rat's a$$ whether you are around or not but appreciates attention when you are there, and can care for itself (i.e. a big bowl of dry food and big bowl of water and you could leave it for 2 weeks) and something that generally doesn't bite (and if it does it leaves SMALL holes)- then buy a cat.
I appreciate all animals and love being around them but I'll be damned if I'll ever own another dog. I grew up with 4 and owned 1 myself and they were royal pains. Not that I didn't love them, but just they weren't so much more rewarding than cats to be worth the extra effort. On the other hand my cat requires about a minute of effort a week- scoop the box, top off the water and food bowl, that's it.

My cat greets me at the door when I get home. If i don't want to play, she will go lay down or do something on here own. She won't sit and beg. Although sometimes she will lay on her back and beg, haha.
And she is mean.

My dogs enjoy human company, but do not crave it or pine for it. My dogs don't have to be "walked" or cleaned up after. We let them out, they do their business, and they come back in. Much better than a cat that poops in the house, even if it is in a litter box. 0
