Part of our rights are to be able to own anything the goverment has to prevent tyranny. If you can afford it, you can have it.

I can sell anyone who walks into my store a 50 cal rifle if they fill out a background check and have an Alabama State ID. With all the rules that we have....knowing that there is still a chance a moron could use a 50 cal for some horrific purpose does not keep me up nites. Knowing it COULD have happened and hasn't means (to me) that the morons stick with what is typically used in these sorts of crimes. They won't waste the money on a high end rifle....they typically don't know enough about wepons to get their hands on a high end rifle that will out-gun others. To a moron...a bullet is a bullet....the gun is just a tool like a hammer, in moron world any hammer will do.

I am with sarge. Even to the point of having a nuclear weapon. Whatever you can afford.

If you can afford it you should be able to have it. Look at some high end cars that will do 200mph+ and cost $100,000. There in no road in this country that you can drive it that fast but they are still legal. If everything from .22's to armored tanks with machine guns were legal I bet most of the crimes would still be comitted with "saturday night specials".

Probably the best answer above. Until that isssue gets settled, no need to range far and wide and consider the extremes. That would only complicate things to where no progress could be made. Maybe that is what she wanted.

quote:Would you allow a law abiding American citizen to own ANY weapon or piece of armament ? Where do you draw the law ?If you can lift it with your own two hands and can carry it, you can own it. That would be the line I would draw.

So if someone can heft a GAU-88 without the aid of machines, hey, chances are he doesn't need any variety of firearm in the first place, but more power to him.

I'm not really in favor of "if you can afford it, you can have it" because it favors the wealthy above and beyond your average working stiff - and let's face it, most of the rich are anti-gunners anyway, so why give them more of an advantage in that department?

Mods, this subject will advertantly need to be sent to the political forum.

First off, the gun rights granted us by 2A, was to help us free ourselves from a tyrannical government. In the days of which the constitution was written, basically there were muzzle loading rifles, pistols, shotguns, and cannons. Our constitution made provisions that anyone could own anything, on the lattitude of keeping the government by the people, for the people. That in effect translated in todays times(and don't let your ego tell you we are smarter in todays world), would say yes, anything you can afford you can own, and there should be no government restrictions.

i noticed you said they must have an Alabama state ID. i thought you could buy a long gun from any state as long as you passed the background check

Being that the 2nd ammendment is there to make sure we can function as militia, I believe we should have access to any and all weapons used by individual infantry.

After that, we can talk about the rest.

Personally I wouldn't care what the gun is, but rather what someone is doing with it. If someone robs a gas station I don't really see that would matter how long the barrel was, if it was full or semi auto, etc.

Ask them if they would be comfortable having the same kinds of restrictions on their other rights as there are on their 2A rights.
IE you can go to any church you want, as long as it's one the Gov't pre-approved.
You can say anything you want about the Gov't, but you can't you can't say it to more than 5 people with out a liscense/permit from the Gov't.

    You get the idea.

    Thats a bold statement.

Anyways, I look at police equipement as a good rule of thumb. If the police have access to it, so should we

    +1

However, if you have a tank you should have to pay a HUGE registration fee. Can you imagine what an 60+ ton M1 Abrahams would do to a city street after repeated use?

I believe anything that can be reasonably employed by a single person should be legal.
    Automatic weapons. M-2, Mk48, M240G, M240B, SAW, Mk-19, etc.
Other weapons. M-79, M-203, hand grenades, demo, claymores, etc. (see signature line)

Not sure about rockets and missiles. SMAW, AT-4, TOW missile, FOTS, RPG, etc. Probably. I can see where those would be used for defense against BGs [bad government].

Anything bigger-mortars, arty, tanks (although those are a blast to drive), mines, air delivered weapons, probably not.

I don't follow that logic. You said you can see where rockets/missiles could be needed to defend against a BG, but tanks, etc are a no? If you had to defend against a BG, do you think they will not use their tanks, etc against you?

Just about anything that can be carried by the individual.

AFTER we regain our Rights..we can start the debate over the top limits.

Crew served weapons ought to stored down at the local armory..lorded over by a grizzled old Gunny...and availible to be checked out after training BY said Gunny. To be carried out to the government range for practice.

Alabama state issued ID for handguns and I can sell long guns to anyone with a boardering state's ID. Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida are the only states other that Alabama that I can sell long guns to.

Were the Cannons at Valley Forge legal?

Right now, getting the Crew Weapons is easy.
Getting the crew is the hard part.

Is that an Alabama law? It sure isn't the Federal law. I can sell a long gun to a resident of any state in the USA, as long as the sale and possession of that gun is legal in both Texas and his home state.

That contiguous state rule went away a LONG time ago.
