What powder is everyone using???
I'm getting ready to site in a new scope on my omega. I've always used loose pyrodex. Have thought about switching to the pellets. Some use triple 7. Anything out there that shoots alot cleaner than the other? Anything new that I have not heard about?

This stuff sounds good. Have you tried it??0 -
And after doing a search on gunbroker. Where in the heck do you buy it at? 0 -
I'm going to sight in a new encore barel, and I may want to use this stuff. Anyone know where to get it?
Edit---Cabelas has it.0 -
I have not tried the Blackhorn. I am shooting smokeless in my Savage so any of those BP subs would be a step down for me.
If you could use it in cap and ball pistols I would sure give it a try, since it is supposedly non corrosive.
Call me the wimp but I am sick of cleaning my cap and ball pistols when shooting black powder.
I have heard some good things about the Blackhorn. It is expensive, but it is supposed to be cleaner than the 777. Also it is supposed to be accurate.
Any way, you asked for something cleaner burning that you hadn't heard about, so Blackhorn 209 is for you.0 -
For my Hawken at the range and BP Shoots I use Hodgdon Triple 7 loose ... seems to work pretty good for me and it cleans up pretty easily.
I do use the Hodgdon Triple 7 in my T/C Omega 50 for hunting.0 -
pyrodex RS for my hawken
777 for the encore
all that other stuff is too hard to get around here0 -
I use Hodgdon Triple 7 loose in my Hawken at the range and for BP Shoots.
I use Hodgdon Triple 7 pellets in my Omega 50 for hunting.
I haven not tried the Buckhorn stuff yet.0 -
All my black powder guns have stamped on the barrel "Black Powder Only" and That's what I use. If I were to use something else it wouldn't be a primitive weapon anymore. some hermorphadite thing I guess. I feel the same way about 209 primers, scopes, electric ingnition, sabots, etc. If you can't handle the "real deal" just stick to your 30-30. 0 -
I really like American Pioneer Powder, Jim Shockey's Gold. It is great for clean up, just one pass of a wet paper towel and it's clean as new.
I've tried 777, and it does give higher velocites.0 -
My vote is for 777FFFG Loose, for my Encore. Cleans easily, and doesn't stink like Sulfur. 0
