3855 loads cowboy action
In need of some 3855 loads for cowboy action shooting, also is there any one who cast resonably priced hard cast bullets. Any information would be apprecated.
Thanks, Mike

Tex-X ammunition offers cas 38-55 ammo, and cowboybullets.com offers 38-55 bullets 500 for $87 which is reasonable. Good luck 0 -
Star Line makes brass for 38-55 now. I am looking for some jacketed bullets for a 38-55. The barrel in my old 1893 Marlin is a little rough, and I need some 255gr jacketed bullets to load for it. Can't find any.

Go to www.sassnet.com and check the links, there will be several bullet manufacturers there with what you need.

I am happy Captin Midnight found out where to get his bullets, but dose any one have an answer on the original question about 38-55 loads.
Thanks GunBuff0 -
Before I got smart and went to black powder, I loaded .38-55 with Accurate Arms XMR 5744. I used 16 gr and a 240- 250 grain cast bullet; which is the top "cowboy" load, but the starting standard load.

Thanks Hawk, what made you change to black power? 0 -
Started shooting BPCR where I HAD to use black.
But it is more accurate than nitro and not much trouble to clean up after. Casting good enough bullets is the challenge.0 -
I use 20 grains of h4198 under laser-cast bullets. The load works good in a 94 winchester. 0 -
Thanks 38 0 -
H4895 works well in my 93 Marlin 26".
For what it's worth.

I tried allot of smokeless and BP rounds for my 38-55, shoot CASS/SASS side matches mostly. The funny thing was that the most accurate and probably reasonable velocity round was using 777 BP sub. I used a 240 grain hard cast bullet and a case filled just enuff to touch the bottom of the bullet. Produced excellent velocity and won several state level matches. Shoots very consistant and is suprisingly hot.
