    38 Long Colt is different than .38 special,which will work in your revolver.Other '.38' cartridges should be avoided.

    A .357 Magnum revolver will also shoot .38 Special, .38 Long Colt, and .38 Short Colt. It will not shoot .38 S&W.

    "Cowboy" designation on ammunition usually means it is lightly loaded so as to not trouble tenderfoot shooters with recoil and to not overload cartridge conversions of cheap cap and ball revolvers.

    You heard wrong. The 357 will indeed shoot 38 long colt currently offered by black hills and ten-X. It wont shoot the original 38LC aka 38 centerfire designed for cap and ball conversions but I doubt you'd come across any anyway. The 38 long colt was also the sixth most popular chambering of the SAA FYI.
