One thing I hate about perch
Lake Erie yellow perch is one of the best, mildest, tastiest eating fish around. But boy do I hate cleaning those little buggers. Even a jumbo is not going to push much bigger than 12 inches or so and the majority run about 8 inches or so.
You can filet them- and get a filet about the size of a large shrimp, probably with a few bones in it as they are needle thin and easy to cut through.
You can scale, cut, and remove head/tail and cook with bones in, but while 99% flakes off the bone, there's always that one that breaks... and ends up in your throat.
That said I just cleaned about 40 of them sunday... [:)]

I always take them to the cleaners and let them do it. I caught my limit of perch sitting on the pier at Sandusky Oh in about 3 hours last Sat evening. 0 -
kind of funny seeing someone bitch about one of the best tasting fish in the world.
I never minded the small fillets, it was all part of the deal.0 -
Used to catch them off the water pump stations out in Lake Mich. Fried em up on Sundays and ate them like pop corn while watchng NFL games along with beer or course. 0 -
That sounds really good! 0 -
I'm a cheap bugger. I'm not going to pay someone to clean my fish.
I MIGHT pay someone to cut up a deer but only if I didn't have some help doing it.0
