Anybody bought any treated lumber lately?
I have been extending my board fence and needed twelve 8’ deck boards to finish. I went to Lowe’s yesterday and they were $10.68 per board. The last ones I bought two weeks ago were $6.87 and a month ago they were $5 something. Needless, I didn’t buy any yesterday.

yes, especially treated, everyone is at home doing house projects with virus going on, seems the only thing they don't seem to run out of is plexiglass?? every cashier in the country is behind a piece, now where did it all come from? 0 -

Just kidding you Jim. Last I heard (somewhat recently) I was told that the market on Sawmill logs was really low right now. You would think that would translate to lower overall lumber prices. (?)

I have a neighbor doing a project using 9 foot OSB.He said the price nearly doubled on it overnight.The project is on hold. 0 -
There seems to be a scarcity of treated lumber. Have a Lowes and a HD about a mile apart here. Had to make several trips over a 10 day period just to re-do a 4x8 utility trailer. Well just one more trip (hopefully) Misjudged and need one more 2x4.
Was told the supplier isn't shipping as much.

Currently available treated lumber sucks. Once upon a time, CCA treated pine was warranted for some ridiculous amount of time (20 years?) in direct contact with the ground. No more.
I built a swing set with a 4X6 suspending the swings. This thing was 9 feet off the ground, and it rotted from the inside out, after about 12 years. Some of the 2X6s in the structure also failed due to rot.
I understand CCA isn't available anymore, but whatever replaced it isn't worth the extra expense. Might as well buy regular lumber and seal it.0 -
what ever the treat the wood too for the last 10 ? years sucks must be epa got there fingers into it thevold treated wood was heavy and had the chemicals seeping out when bought LOL
I have a few projects going on and just finding something thats useable is next to impossible the top grade is what I would call scrap
my son built a deck about a month ago he had to search every p;ace in a 50 mile radius to find a store with the deck boards to finish it .0 -
We had a 28’ by 28’ deck built about 4 years ago. About 1/3 of the deck boards are warping and splitting already. It cost a heck of a lot to build and now we’re looking at a huge expense to fix. 0 -
I used to also work at Lowe's and did re-modelling work as a second job. Due to government regulations.........treated lumber today is not as "treated" as it used to be. 0 -
I WAS TOLD THE TREATING COMPANIES could not keep up with demand . what is out there now is just dipped and shipped 0 -
Been impossible for several years to get treated lumber that is dry . All I have found is dripping wet so warping is a major problem when building decks etc. Plus as noted it soon rots

Kiln dried lumber is available but about 30 % higher in cost than wet. Folks look at the price not a busted back at the end of the project. Wet is twice a heavy.Deck floors with treated lumber, if it is dry you best double space it or it will swell up and all but run the deck.Now if it is wet best to space it close so that when it dries out there won't be a huge gap that a cat could fall through.No matter what kind of wood you use if it can never dry out and never get cleaned it will rot, rot, rot.

We are looking at building a 15 X 20 ft deck off the back of our house...we went out and priced it out.....Prices are up and a wait for some of it to become available...my buddy at the lumber yard said they are overrun right now with new building and everyone doing little projects 0 -
They used to put arsenic in PT wood. EPA outlawed it in 2003. They called it "copper arsenate."
I built many decks with it including two on my house. These decks are 23 years old and look great.
I built one for my Mom in 1999, had a small scrap pile. Probably 3 wheel barrow loads of scrap PT pine.
I burned it in the yard in a little bonfire. Several years later I heard they had outlawed arsenic in wood. I didn't know it was arsenic in the first place all I knew was "copper arsenate." I got a small sample of the dirt there at my Mom's house where I had burned that wood. I sent it in to the UGA lab for testing. It was 3 times the toxic level for arsenic, and I had burned that wood five years earlier. UGA said DO NOT grow vegetables in that dirt it would be toxic.0 -
MAO -Impossible- I've been told by the Government we have no inflation
