my new to me truck..........
traded trucks few weeks back, yesterday was first day really got out on the interstate with it. Had to go to VA friday for some more tests and such, it is about 75 miles one way, so filled up here in town and hit the interstate, when pulled into the VA lot looked at mileage screen and I had gotten 27.5 miles to gallon running cruise set on 64 mph. On the way home I set it at 66 and had to turn A/C on as it was nearing 90. got it over 70+ few times to pass trucks and line of slow cars, ect. when pulled in garage turned the readout screen back to miles per gallon and it was on 27.1. I never imagined that kind of mileage!! my old truck got 12mpg no matter how you drove it. new one is 2017 silverado with the 4.3 v6, I had the 5.3 in old 2002 silverado and could never break 12mpg with or without a load, highway or city. anyone else getting this kind of mileage or is my computer messed up???

Check the real mileage the old fashioned way and compare with the computer. Your mileage may vary. Don

my 07 silverado 5.3 4dr will barely kiss 20mpg on the highway and its running a 2.73 rear gear. lightly driven i might add.

Those mileage numbers are hard to believe. Do what Don said.
I have a nice Nissan Frontier 4WD and at best I get 22 mpg.

I have been impressed with the mileage with my 3.6 V6 in my Acadia. I put it down to it having variable valve timing and the active fuel management system. I was surprised how often it reverts to 4 cylinders while on cruise control. The 4.3 is available with this same feature and could be the reason for your good mileage figures. My 3.6 gives 310hp when I need it and about 25mpg combined city/highway mileage. Engine tech has come a long way and that can be a good thing. Bob

06 F150 V6 gets about 18 mpg as does my 95 F250 V8.

i had a 2010 2wd 4dr frontier and that was what it would get on the road

just got back from corner gas station 155 miles 6.3 gallons, roughly 24.6, not as high as the computer average, but still very respectable from full size 4x4 truck!! may be something to bobs post as I noticed a time or two when going downhill on the interstate the average mileage had a V6 down in the corner of the screen and it would change to V4, so my guess is when there is no load on flat or downhill grades it goes down to 4 cylinders..... either way allmost 25 miles to gallon in a full size truck is way beyond what I was hoping for

Got same experience as BobJudy with my Acadia. Very happy, but have a 4 cyl. Evision with a Turbo and I get great mileage.

Some of that mileage comes from the six cylinder engine. When I bought my 2018 Silverado, they tried desperately to sell me a six cylinder but I just couldn't see paying that kind om money for a new truck and only getting a six cyl.
Trucks are for working, hauling, pulling etc and should definitely have a v8. My truck gets about 20mpg give or take .

will agree bull, but my hard working days are over, I occasionally haul a riding mower and my side by side, the price after trade and low miles, 25,000 were what sold me on this truck, I figured I could live with the V6 as I don't do any heavy hauling/working anymore and drive less than 4,000-5,000 miles a year, I am hoping this will be my last truck purchase, the gas mileage is just a bonus at this point......

I have a 2003 silverado with a duramax and a six speed manual trans. A couple of weeks ago I went from southern Oregon to southern Washington and got 26.7 mpg. with the cruise set at 70mph. Around town I usually get 23 mpg. It has 152000 miles on it.

My wife has a 2002 Camry with about 60,000 original miles.Its a 4 cylinder and when I take down the flatlands it will get 50+ mpg on when I drive like an old man.

I get 24 MPG on the highway in my 2019 Dodge Ram 5.0 Hemi! Around 19 average when I'm in town. I drive like an old man though

New to me 2018 F-150 .Extended cab / 2 wheel drive with the 3.7 naturally aspirated engine . Averages 20 to 21 around town .Open road with cruise control and have seen 27. Truck had 39 thousand on it when bought last October . I suspect it will be the last truck i buy . My previous f150 ,a 1995 was with me for 24 years znd over 325,000 miles

I guess I don't understand the whole gas mileage thing with a truck, or any other work vehicle for the sake of conversation.
If it does what I want it to, I'm happy. When the gas gauge gets to 1/4, I give it a drink, doesn't matter if I'm towing or not, same, same.

I wrecked my truck a few years ago.........Dodge Dakota.......got about 20 mpg. Now I have a Nissan Versa that gets 32 mpg........I need another truck so I can haul stuff.

IMO, the only downside to owning a pickup truck is all the friends & family that want to either borrow it or get you and your truck to help move\pickup stuff! 😣

My 2021 Tundra Ltd w/2900 miles on it gets 14.2mpg, but I didn't buy it for mileage, Good thing huh?

The 07 Tacoma TRD with 200k get 15-16 mp g. The 18 F150 4x4 with 5.0 is get 17 around town. On a trip to Florida in the F150 we got 23mpg, that I thought was pretty dang good.

My F250 gasser 2014 4x4 long bed supercab gets 15.5-16 highway and around 11-11.5 towing. Doesn't matter to me.

I grew up on a farm driving a truck .I have always p had a truck on hand to drive since getting my license at age 16.For some years a car was the primary driver (hotrodded corvettes , cougars and mustangs ) but always a Ford truck In the yard of some type .for the past 25years no car ,just a truck .

Dano, it may be one of those situations where it is cheaper to actually have the extra vehicle. For us, 3 cars insured is cheaper than 2 because of bundling.

As you have already done with a small bit of gas, I'd watch it over the next 4-6 full tanks of gas. Then you should have a better overall idea. The closer to empty (within reason of course), the more accurate your results. Fill it the same way every time. If you shut it off when the auto-stop triggers, then do that every time. I have seen people fudge the numbers by extra filling the first tank, then light filling the next tank to show a MPG change.
I've got a 2019 Colorado ZR2. It is the higher sitting 4wd version which gets lower mileage than the 2wd shorter models, but I have averaged 17.5 MPG for the past 4500 miles. Previous owner only managed 16.1. I do NOT baby it. I speed much of the time. It has the 3.6 V-6 which oddly, has the same HP and TQ ratings as my old truck which was a 98 k1500 Z71 350 (5.7) but it gets over 5 more mpg better. I have been saving for a supercharger so that may change. ;-)

Sorry Dano, I misread your original post... For me, this was an old truck I had back when I just drove cars. The truck was a cheap full size, with the obligatory rust holes, etc. But, we used it a few times a year. I had it for 5+ years and I nearly broke even on insurance savings vs what I paid for the truck. But, I put a lot of labor in it in between.

Must have been something seriously wrong with that one. I'm running a 2004 1/2 ton Chevy with the 5.3 and a 3.73 axle ratio(vs the 3.42{?}) and getting anywhere from 16 to 19 with cruise set on 67-68 (2000 rpms) and AC on.

We drove my buddy's 2016 Wam 1500 to New Mexico and the only way that pickup could get 19MPG is if you hauled it 1/2 way there. In fact, we got better MPG in a rented F250 on the last trip.

Back when I had my 77 Dodge Warlock the gas mileage was so bad I had to fill up on a one way trip of only 150 miles. The first week of driving I would stop and look for leaks in the gas tank and lines! Never found any but sure wish that would have been the problem!
