3-0 on the appliance front.....

had some oven problems month or so back, have friend of the family who used to owned an appliance shop and still does repairs on the side. he came out and it was just loose connection on the thermostat for the oven, just few days ago we lost the freezer on an old fridge we keep in the garage for extra beer and pop and water for the grandkids, turns out it was just a plugged up defroster drain. Last night we lost the freezer and fridge in the kitchen friend just left, turns out it was the temperature control switch you could just tap the knob and it would kick on and off, he said the vibration from the door closing was kicking the compressor off. $56. and a case of beer later we are good to go, don't know how much longer my luck is gonna hold out, may go buy lottery ticket today...............

    In your case hillbillie, that old cliché "It's not what you know, but who you know" worked out well in your favor! :)    Being the good guy that you are, I'm glad those darn pesky appliances got a new life and will continue doing what they were made to do for many years to come!

    I had a new Whirlpool Refrigerator/freezer quit at one year two months of age. Just after I had stuffed it with $250 in food. Grrr.............. (Warranty was one year.) "Freon leak, up in the upper case that is surrounded in foam. Can not be repaired."

    I kinda went off (innapropriately) on the Lowes Manager over the phone. (I apologized in person.) He agreed to sell me a different brand refrigerator at cost. He understood my anger. I paid extra for a 5 year extended warranty on this one. (GE) I will NEVER buy another Whirlpool appliance again.

    im fairly sure a lot of brands are all made in the same factory,  but i still hope this one works out for you

    Since Covid, the dishwasher quit, the ice maker went out and we are waiting on the third (Mom always said bad luck comes in threes).  So mine almost balance yours.

    AND most of the replacement appliances now days are electronic digital controlled. Made so as to not be repaired at a reasonable repair cost. some repair parts cost almost as much as a new appliance.
    I'm a ele3ctronic tech and electrician and did appliance repairs few years ago and I don't care for the new electronic appliances. they are purposely made to not live a long life and so as NEW replacements are the best option. Get out the plastic Visa chipped smart card and go buy NEW.  Most of my own appliances are of the OLD style (repairable by replacing a simple part)
    For Example: Got a $800 SMART washing machine, top loader, Few days after the warranty expired it started getting erratic, not completing a complete wash cycle. (no surprise,( I suspect some failures are pre-programmed into the motherboard for failure after the warranty period) Similar to the new Smart vec's that have warning lights on the dash come on after so many miles.
    I finally found a Generic Service manual (the companies do not Joe Blow technician to have access to service manuals so as to attempt repairs their own stuff. The companies think they still own your stuff)
    After several attempts I was able to retrieve the error codes from the computer and fixed the washer.
    Thought about just getting the wiffee a non electronic, non electric rub board. (with instructions)
    Doubt if I could even find such now days. (changing times)
    Everything now days is SMART style, Smart phones, Smart Cars, Smart appliances. Sure makes me feel dumb.

    2 1/2 year old freezer bit the dust, highest rating at the time, checked out what I could with Youtube advice. After all food was relocated it turned out to be the thermostat. Neighbor fixed it and I gave it to him. Burnt me once but not twice. Bit the bullet and bought a commercial True freezer,made in the USA, $$$$$$$$, local commercial appliance repair company sells and services them. He carries all parts to keep it running on all three of his trucks.
    Washer and dryer, get Speed Queens with simple hand controls, no bells and whistles, again $$$$$$$. Much like Timex watches, take a licking and keep on ticking.
