U.S. Navy?s New Carrier has Elevators problems?

Yep they can't supply bombs and other ammunition to the planes. They are still unable to figure it out and need experts to short it out as of July 2, 2019.

The Advanced Weapons Elevators, which are moved by magnets rather than cables, were supposed to be installed by the vessel?s original delivery date in May 2017. Instead, final installation was delayed by problems including four instances of unsafe ?uncommanded movements? since 2015, according to the Navy.

The ship, designated as CVN 78, has encountered years of delays and cost overruns for the first new design for an aircraft carrier since the Nimitz-class debuted in 1975.

Follow-on ships in the class already under construction are the John F. Kennedy and the Enterprise, with planning for the unnamed CVN 81 in progress.

    I don?t know anything about building boats or magnetic elevator technology but this seems like something you could prototype and work out 99% of the details on shore, oh 4 or 5 years ago.

    PS- I did used to work for Ellen Lord (mentioned in the Bloomberg article- She is a sharp cookie.

    interesting that old tech simply worked ...even under battle conditions ...and new tech....call the Maytag man ????

    try to picture those things contractors use on the side of a house that you get in and push a button, and the thing goes up with a scissor type cross beam set up.
    add cables and pulleys to it and that was what I remember on my carrier.

    New Tech is always going to have bugs in it, they will figure it out or fix it. Yep its going to cost but that the cost of being a Super Power.

    The mag catapults have major issues as well. It is sound technology, just the low bidder underestimated how much effort it would take to get it to milspec.
