    It is wrong to say "never" but the standard post war stocks were the same brown plastic they had been using on USGI contract guns. It didn't take long for them to put a Horsie in the mold, though.
    I would want documentation before I paid a collector price for something else.

    Colt called their plastic grips, "Colt Wood". Don't know if that is their name for bakelite plastic or not?

    Some of the hard core collectors, are very particular about the mold markings on the inside of the grips. And various other features, like the rings around the screw holes, and reinforcements on the inside. Since the grips are so easy to change out, don't see that it makes a heck of a lot of difference.

    Coltwood will also warp if it is stored off a gun or not kept tight to a hard backing.

    not only will coltwood warp it will also Shrinkif not mounted to the grip frame and you will not be able to re mount them don't worry about it put some nice colt real wood grips on your pistol.
