Lead free 22 LR ammo
With California banning hunting ammunition that contains lead, I was wondering how the lead free 22 LR bullets perform on small game and will this ammo reliably function in semi-automatic rifles and pistols since the bullets weigh much less that the lead bullets used in most 22 LR ammunition?

The listing I found for Winchester's lead free 22 LR is a 30-gr copper plated tin bullet at 1,650 fps. That makes it considerably more powerful (more energy) than a standard velocity 40-gr 22 LR. Based on the numbers given by Winchester, I see no reason why it would not function reliably in a semi-auto firearm. 0 -
Shot the first generation tin bullets, (unplated), years ago. Functioned OK, but terrible accuracy from a handgun. This was before the Obama ammo panic of 2012, when Walmart sold it. As I recall it set me back $6/$7 a box? Considering the poor accuracy, this made me very unhappy.[xx(] 0 -
I have two bricks of Winchester SPLAT-ERLESS gallery 22 ammo the bullet is metal dust and clay used for shooting at state fair ETC 0 -
Twist rate for bullet length/weight and perhaps rifling depth and style will be factors. 0 -

It's Kaliphornia, so that's already happened.0 -
It looks like people will just have to see if the lead free ammo will work in their guns and considering that some guns are finicky even with lead bullets, people will have to just try some and see how it works. 0
