whiperwill thread got me thinking...
have any of you all ever messed with the morning doves, by blowing in your cupped hands??? I had one fly up on edge of roof yesterday, we "whistled" back and forth for about 5 minutes don't know if it was a him or her, but I got the poor fellow all worked up...........

I've worked up and called in several species of birds, quail, doves, hoot owls, turkeys.................... Yet, when I whistle at the wimmins that take off, it just doesn't make sense. 3 -
birds are a lot less trouble and a lot cheaper to feed scout............ 0 -
Yup! I gave a gal the ole wolf whistle once and when she turned around, her face made a wolf look good!

Not doves, but learned to whistle up bob white quail when I was 5. If Mom wanted quail for dinner, Dad would take a Marlin 39, sit out at the picnic table in the back yard. Adjoining 60 acre wheat field, whistle and wait. Walk bird into the edge of the yard, pop head off with the .22, place on table, resume whistling. When there were enough for dinner, put rifle away, dress birds. 0 -
The last partridge I had for dinner was totally not a planned menu item. A warm Autumn day sitting in my living room watching TV. A big bird slammed into my picture window. I figured the suicidal bird filled up on fermented wild grapes after doing an autopsy. 0
