lost power yesterday......
it was about 4:30 or so and wife was out running, I went downstairs as it was about 70 degrees, to open the garage door for her since garage door opener is electric. got a bottle of beer and sat down near the garage door in lawn chair to wait. must have had at least half a dozen neighbors who were driving down road stop and ask if power was off!!!! just had to shake my head, it hadn't been 10-15 minutes and these folks were allready in cars and running off to find out what happened... bet we must of had wind gusts close to 70 miles hour, not much rain, but wind came out of nowhere and was just crazy, only out about two and half hours but these folks thought it was end of world

Most People will have no clue what it takes in order to survive such a situation. Plenty of supplies available there.
Wind got really heavy around here last night. Super light sleeper. Was awake listening to it repeatedly. Finally got up around 4:00 AM.

My power was out this time last week. Six days and four nights what a pain that is.

Our winter storm hit during the night and I prepared the day before. Filling our bathtubs with water, firing up the portable generator, and making sure all of my extension cords are handy. I only worry about keeping my freezer and refrigerator running along with a few lamps. The bathtub water is for flushing the toilets and dishes. My basement propane fireplace runs fine without power and keeps the place warm if needed.
My house is hard wired for a generator but the outlets are for male plug in adapters which aren't safe (if you're a dimwit) and I haven't got around to making up special cords.
I actually enjoy those rare (short) outage occasions. Candle light is mesmerizing!

After all the dire warnings over several days about the impending weather apocalypse it fortunately was a let down. Got as prepared as possible and only lost power for less than a minute. The biggest inconvenience was waiting for the DISH receiver to reboot as it takes about 10 minutes. Bob

Our neighbors said they were real sorry to hear about all our troubles with the power being off.
They are pretty nice folks. Never had an Amish neighbor before.
