who think change is no big deal, In my life I have known folks who didn't know how to raise the hood of their car, let alone fix anything under it if they did get it up, yet they drive it everyday, and also known folks who have brought me guns with the bolt in pieces or the inards of the reciever in a box who had taken it apart to clean it but just can't get it back together, yet shoot it and hunt. when it comes to computers I am one of those guys, and bet there are a few others, I can fix the car or gun but when comes to computers I know enough to leave the "hood" down before I make it worse instead of better, so next time you say its no big deal, just remember to some folks it is.......

and to add, there are some who have little interest in how/why an item functions as it does, just want it to be simple to operate.

I think it boils down to the fact that things like assembling things, rebuilding engines, construction, getting a vehicle unstuck in the middle of BFE in the middle of the night all can use analytical reasoning. I am one of those guys that used to read instructions and don't get anything out of it. But, if I open the box, put the pieces in my hands and look them over, I can generally put it together without the manual except maybe to figure out what bolts to use where and maybe which order things should go together in.
Most thing in computers and phones for that matter are an evolution from one version to the next. The problems arise when you switch to a different one like PC to Mac, iPhone to Android, etc.
I am in I.T. and have been using computers since I was a tyke starting with Vic 20, then Commodore 64, Apple 2c, etc. Only took about 5 years away from it. So, when I severely injured my back and was no longer going to be able to do the work I previously had I thought for a while of what I thought I could do, what I was good at, and what I could stand for an entire career. Well, since the demand was low for an overweight white guy with an average willy to be in porn so I.T. became the obvious choice. I am now a systems admin so instead of working on individual machines, I script things that affect everyone in the organization. It is really cool until your script breaks ~1,600 systems simultaneously (ask me how I know). :?0 -
