I ordered a rather pricy appliance, considering it is counter top - a couple months ago. Tried to cancel the order the very next day. ((After doing a little more research, and feeling/stating I was getting ripped off.) About an hour after getting off the phone, received notification it had "shipped." What a coincidence. ;)

Spoke to multiple levels of Customer Service, before repeatedly asking to speak with the Cust./Serv. Manager. Worked out a refund/ship it back at no cost deal/arrangement.

About a week later received an E-mail that "your package has arrived, what do you think?" Uhh, No. Nothing has been delivered to my house.

Called back. "Nothing here. I can not return something for refund, that I have not received." Things got more complicated.

Threatened to claim "Fraud," and seek legal recourse. Apparently the Magic Words. Full refund authorized. Where it went? Well that is your problem. Talk to Fed -Ex.

After thinking this whole debacle was over, (over 2 months now, mind you.) My Neighbor comes knocking on my door yesterday. Has his golf cart with a big A$$ box in the back. "My Mom received this package, and I believe it is yours." Had no idea what it was. (Early Christmas gift?)

Got it inside, realized what is was. (Shipped Oct. 10th.) Called my neighbor back. "How long has your Mom had this?" "Oh, She said a couple weeks or so. Told me about it yesterday."

So now I have this "appliance," that I actually really wanted, but felt overcharged - sitting in my house. (Around $500.)

Knew what I had to do. Called them up this morning, explained the rather complicated chain of events. Told them it had been delivered to the wrong address and the elderly lady had said nothing to anyone until yesterday, when it got brought down to me.

Told them I was requesting a Fed-Ex call tag to return it. (No cost to me.)

The Cust/Serv. Guy was taken off stride. He basically said I could keep it if I wished. Told him, "I would not feel right about it." He kept complimenting me on my Honesty. Told him - " I could not sleep at night, or ever use it and not realize what I had done. It is not worth it to me."

I feel vindicated. It was tempting (fleetingly) but I knew what I had to do. I feel good about it.

I did the right thing.

    It was a Ninja Indoor Griller/Air Fryer. (Seems to weigh about 20-30 lbs.)

    I have a bunch of Steaks and various cuts of meat that were calling my name from the freezer. (That was the Devil talking.)

    I could not look my dog in his eyes, if I had done otherwise.

    Yeah, for about 1 second Don. (That was the Devil tempting me.)

    I did the right thing. Like I knew I would, from the get go. (You of course have never been tempted?)

    Oh by the way, I was told I could keep it, if I wished. Declined that also. Why do you feel the need to disparage me Don?

    you did the right thing as every honest person would do . way to go

    congrats on being part of the minority of today's society ;)

    we get the wrong mail some what often for many years now . we have also received wrong packages from ups and fed-ex deliveries and I have had to track down some of mine :( UPS ask me once to go to where it was delivered (they found the mistake and had the address ) and ask for the package WTH ..
    we have delivered more than our share of packages to where they belonged sometimes several + miles away ? even traded packages once they had mine and I had there package address not even close or our names ( 3 miles away ) that was the strange one . most at least have a couple numbers close to our address :shock: :shock:

    You're right that you'd have felt guilty every time you looked at it - but that's because you have a conscience. People who give you crap for doing what you did? Maybe not so much.

    If you never get the return authorization (which ought not surprise you) why not donate it to your nearest charity shelter?

    I do not mean to be disparaging, but do not see the test here.

    Yes, you did the right thing. You did what should be expected of anyone.

    Perhaps it is a generational thing, but praising someone for doing what is expected is something I am not familiar with.

    At that point, if they had already got reimbursed from FedEx I think I might have thought about offering them a fair price to keep it.

    This is what I was going to suggest. Then you can justify that they got paid the price you would have paid locally and not the inflated price they were going to charge.

    So now that we get all snarky, you get to actually get to hear what I really think.

    1. You ordered a product without doing the research, and when you found a better deal, you had buyer's remorse and tried to cancel the order.
    On Gunbroker, you would be called a deadbeat buyer and reasonable sellers would consider banning you.

    2. The company shipped the item as contracted, and you question their integrity.

    3. This company spent money processing and shipping the item, and in your 'Test of Honesty', you apparently have given no consideration as to reimbursing them for the time/money that they had spent.

    4. You then pat yourself on the back for not taking possession of something you ordered, but did not want nor pay for, and even have the gall to request the company send you a shipping tag 'at no cost to me', rather than offering to at least pay for the shipment.

    You did the right thing by not taking possession of something that was not yours. Most of us resist the powerful urge to steal thing every day.

    The difference is, we do not go on line, pat ourselves on the back and award ourselves a 'participation in the human race trophy' after our actions have cost other people money.

    Personal responsibility sadly must be a thing of the past.
