A clear cut example of "just 'cause ya can, doesn't mean ya should".

Why not? I have a shotgun rifle and a four wheel drive.
    A country boy can survive.

Back about forty six years ago when I was in the Albany, New York Police Academy, part of the firearms training was shooting a Ithaca 20 gauge Auto & Burglar. The Albany Police Dept had about fifty of them, and we had to shoot them as well as Thompson Sub Machine Guns. They had not been issued in years, and it was more of a right of passage. They were factory built and sold as a double barrel handgun with a ten inch barrel. They were not marketed as a sawed off shotgun.

One of the instructors would shoot it one handed...years later we found out he shot a light hand loaded skeet round with number nine shot. At the time we were duly impressed.

If that were made for marketing in the USA, it would be classified as an AOW, and subject to registration and a $5.00 transfer tax.

I believe Ithaca stopped making them sometime in the 1930's because the tax back then was $200. Then reduced to $5 in 1960. A very rare gun. As far as I know the Albany PD still has them in their gun vault.

I'd shoot it. Had a Moss 500 riot 12ga with pistol grip. I'd shoot it like a pistol, one handed.

IF for some reason (like strong drink) I really wanted a 12 g pistol, Serbu makes a rather nifty AOW pump shotgun pistol.

Was haggling with a gent over a nice Ithaca, but we could not come to an agreement on price. I was told that when hijacking trucks was a national pastime, it was marketed as a tool to remove anyone that jumped up on your running board, and tried to open your truck door. I think it would work.

Had my campers companion with me in the cab of my truck. Stopped at a rest stop in New Mexico, snowing outside, seriously cold. Crawled up in my sleeping bag, pistol grip shotgun on the floor next to me. Wake up at zero dark thirty to some guy working on the door trying to jimmy his way into the cab. He was looking down, I cleaned the frost off the inside of the window without him noticing and tapped the glass with the barrel of my shotgun, you never saw anybody disappear so fast. :)

I only shot that sucker a few times with magnum loads, the second or third try it split the web between my thumb and forefinger spewing blood everywhere. Winchester 1200, 18-inch barrel, homemade pistol grip.

I have a 15"screw in full choke encore .410 and love it. It also shoots .45 Long Colt +P which is really as hot as a .44 mag. NO Stamp, NO Govt. involvement.

"Kills on one end; wounds on the other" Don't know who said this but they might have had this thing in mind.

I've shot a few shotgun pistols. My grandpa (my father's step dad) had one of the Ithaca's. Not really any worse than shooting a .454.

I suspect you can put a 12 gauge barrel on a Contender or an Encore. Never tried, but I have a .257 barrel. Still looking for .30 Carbine.
