I would try your gun store. Cabala's and other big stores likely have a box or 2 on the shelf. Selection will limited. Mail order can work.

I buy Black Hills, and look for good prices on one of the ammo search engines. 0 -
I went to my favorite ammo site. They didn't list 44-40 available, from any manufacturer. Which surprised me. As they have a bot that searches the net for any available ammo. This isn't positive IMHO. Might consider reloading. If you intend to do any amount of shooting with your revolver. 0 -
In less then 60 seconds I googled and came up with all types of 44-40 and prices from 59 cents a cartridge and up it's out there and plenty that's cheap enough for target and some very good stuff for hunting that's a bit on the pricey side. 0 -

Just be aware that Black Hills is VERY slow compared to either Winchester or Remington ammunition. This will definitely change the point of impact!!!He Dog said:I buy Black Hills, and look for good prices on one of the ammo search engines.

A friend of mine (with very limited computer search skills) had a 44-40 carbine and before asking me about it, paid $2 per round at Cabala's then had his son-in-law reload it for him. The son-in-law also made more cases from 70 ... when he finally told me about it, I pulled out my phone and found half a dozen suppliers in a matter of minutes. 0 -
