One of my dreams

SW0320
was to fly in a fighter jet. Not quite a fighter jet but a trainer for jet pilots. I got to fly in an L39 Albatros. We did rolls, 5g maneuvers and various fighter type tricks.

    Awesome . ! Living next door and under the flight line to an air horse base I have always wanted to take a back seat ride in either an F4. Phantom or one of the F15 eagles . Sit there with a grin on my face and tell the pilot ? turn this sucker loose!?

    It was one of my Bucket List items.

    After the year we had with deaths in the family, especially with ones younger than me. I decided that I am going to do the things that I have always wanted to do everything else be damned, except for having to sell any guns. I did have to curtail my gun purchases for a bit. But I have so many now I do not always have time to shoot them all.

    It certainly was interesting. I have a real appreciation for the guys that do this all the time. Doings rolls and flying upside down was something that is so hard to describe the feeling, not anything like any amusement park ride. Also doing 5g's was the most I could do and it was will work to keep from passing out.

    The pilot was great, he was in the front seat and I was in the rear which is usually the instructors seat. Both seats are live ejection seats. I had instrution on using the ejection seat and how to get out of th jet if the ejection system did not work.

    He had just one warning for me, if he said "eject,eject,eject" I had to go first so as to not be hit by the exhaust of from his front seat. The pilot said that if I did not eject within 5 seconds of his warning, he was gone and I would be eating his exhaust.

    Sounds like a great experience.

    I checked a bucket list item a couple summers ago with 45 minutes in a P-51.

    Sometimes when the opportunity is there, you just have do it.

    Very cool. I note it still has what appear to be Czech markings. Did it have Czech instruments or has it been altered to US type? Or would you even know? Those jets were exported to a lot of other countries, and the ones available to buy can have all sorts of modifications, most importantly the instruments.

    Nothing quite like ripping sky in a jet, is there?

    The pilot keep all of the original Czech markings. He did change the instruments to US style instruments.

    Very wise of him. Soviet-style instruments are totally different than ours, the attitude indicator especially. I suppose it makes sense to them, but it's polar opposite of the way ours work. I can't even get my head around it enough to explain how theirs works.
